Final Fantasy VII freeze

Game freezes when I get to cosmic canyon observatory scene.Scene starts out but freezes after meteor crash scenes.Have tried about all patches I have found all to no avail.I'm still looking,any help and recommendations r greatly apreciated.

80gb hd,ati mobility radeon xpress,amd athlon 64,2048 ram
