[SOLVED] Freeze (Crash) after around 2-3hrs playing...

Hi im playing COD4... nearly to max settings.... im plying more than 2 hours already but in the middle of the game after that it crash... its just the sounds can be heard (but its like choking) and theres nothing i can do except to reset the whole system.... whats the problem to this.. is it bcause my VGA getting hot or not enough memory? or my RAM or others? .. well basically... my VGA doesnt seem to get hot nowadays as i can see that the idle is around 52-53 and the load is more like 60+ (if im not mistaken cause i cant really see it in real time mode)

any opinions will help.... thanx in advance!!

oh yeah... ive overclocked my VGA to 678/1589/1055 ... ive read that if you can play your games for several hours.. it means that it runs fine.. however... even my it was at its default clocks.. the crash randomly appears....

well cpu's,and gpu's cool very quickly when the load drops.so real time monitoring will be needed to get a true load temp.thats very easy now.try the evga precision utility it can display the gpu temp on the screen while playing.

btw.. how this thing works? are u saying that i have to open the application and then playing the games normally, cause i dont have such keyboard that can tell it somewhere...

no you dont need a special keyboard.it can display that right on the monitor like the fraps frame rate counter.

okay... after playing so for about an hour... the highest i could see the temps of the GPU is like 66-67C .... but still after playing for so long.. theres crashes.. the game just become black screen.. then its back to the game but its stuck.. nothing i can do even theres no cursor... what is the problem causing this? is it that my GPU out of memory since its only 320MB.. or my RAM (2GB)... im about to add a ZALMAN VF-1000 and another 2GB RAM... do u think this can solve the issue? or is there any other ideas?

actually that temp is ok video cards do run hotter than cpu's.is cod4 the only game your having a problem with?if so its probably driver related what driver version are you using?

edit:what are your cpu temps getting to?also lets check the voltages with speedfan

my cpu never reach 40C .... and the cores are always below 50C ... well currently im most active in COD4... other games are just simple graphics... well driver im currently using the 169.44 from EVGA official web... do u think this occurs due to my overclocking? cause im using the stock fan... but i dun see so much heat... is it not stable?

why not try the whql certified driver from nvidia.

yes try it the one i posted is the newest whql certified driver.just in case you dont know i have no idea.be sure to uninstall your current driver first.

do i have to uninstall first or just let the installshield uninstall it and replace it by the whql driver by itself.. cause thats wat i did ...

normally you should uninstall drivers before installing another one.since its already a done deal just try your games,and see what happens.

well.. theres still crash here and there so ill just reduce the clock... hopefully it'll be fine.. so r u suggesting i uninstall the driver and reinstall it again or just leave it?

so i just do what uve told.. i uninstall the current driver and reinstall the driver again... well havent try the game yet but ive seen an increase in my 3DMark scores by 15k ... it really amaze me!! i heard that there'll be new driver coming soon by nvidia... do u recomend to update to the new version if its available cause ive read on some articles saying that "if the current driver have no problem, dun update it cause the new one doesnt mean its good" ... well im about to try my game again later and if i see any problem.. ill come back to this thread again... cheers and thanx!!

well i managed to play it for about 4hours non-stop and then suddenly theres the crash came again.. i think the card cant hold the burden due to restless and thats why its crash... is that possible? ...
