[SOLVED] WIERD cpu overheating problem

while playing cod4 and alot of other games my cpu core temp wont go above 44-45 degrees celcius.but for some reason wen i play rainbow 6 vegas 2 after about 15-20 mins of play my core temp goes to 61-62 degrees celcius and my motherboard shuts down my pc.my pc is more than good enough to run vegas 2.i pass all the reccomended settings let alone the minimum.i dony kno why this is happening.i have to take a break and shut down my pc after about 20 mins of playing vegas 2.
my cpu is a intel core 2 duo~3.00 ghz
my video cards are 8600 gt (2of em)
memory is 2 gbs of corsair
i have a 600 watt cooler master psu

p.s. also after the crash wen the temp got too high i felt the psu on the inside of the case and it was almost hot enogh to burn my hand.also i checked on intel.com and the MAX temp for my cpu is 72 degrees celcius.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: WIERD cpu overheating problem

It could be because your other games are only using 1 of your 2 CPU cores, resulting in a lower CPU temperature. Check in Task Manager > Performance tab to see if both cores are being used during gameplay. You might need to go to View > CPU History > 'One graph per CPU' to see them both.

Check your temperatures and voltages with PC Wizard during gameplay (alt-tab out of the game to see PC Wizard). Post back with a screenshot from the 'Voltage, Temperature & Fans' window. If the voltages are outside the accepted +-5% range, this could be contributing to the overheating.

How many case fans do you have, and how are they positioned? Are they all spinning, unobstructed by cables and free of dust?

Have you tried reapplying some thermal paste to the CPU?

Your PSU has 19A on each of the 3 +12V lines, enough to power 2 8600GTs. To check the rest of your components, enter your full system specs into this power calculator and set Capacitor Aging to 25%. Click the Calculate button, then add 30% to the total to allow for PSU inefficiency.

Re: WIERD cpu overheating problem

OK, so check the games where the CPU temperature is lower and see if Task Manager shows them using both cores.

Re: WIERD cpu overheating problem

To take a screenshot, press the PrintScreen button on your keyboard. This saves the screen to the clipboard. Open Paint, create a new image and hit Ctrl-V to paste the screen. Save it as a compressed jpg (try to keep the size below 100kb). Then go to an upload site like ImageShack or Putfile, submit your screenshot jpg. It will give you an URL (website address for the image). Copy this by highlighting the URL and hitting Ctrl-C. Click the yellow 'Insert Image' button in the toolbar above your reply, then paste the URL into the box.

This is better than trying to copy down all the temperatures and voltage values by hand, because they will start to change as soon as you leave the game.

Sorry, I don't use Xfire or IMs for replies. We prefer to keep all answers within the forum.
