Oblivion running at 9-10 FPS on Vista
As per protocol I've read the post that says "Read this before you post or we will stick a boot in your ***".
I've attached my DXDiag to this post (or it should be) so that gives you the specs for the Laptop. It's brand spanking new and thus far everything but oblivion is running on it relatively effortlessly (HL2 is cranked to sexy graphics and runs smooth enough for me to be very very happy). Basically I contacted Bethesda on it and they told me "Run in Windows XP mode" and then followed it up with "If that doesn't work we can't help you." I find it odd that a game that sold its 3 millionth copy just before Vista didn't have ANY extra income to have a small team of techs find and hotfix the conflicts...but whatever. It's Oblivion, Knights of the Nine, and Shivering Isles. On my PC which is a Pentium 4, 7800 GTS AGP card and 2 gigs of ram I can run it at high settings and get smooth enough FPS that I don't notice any problems (So I can guess over 30 fps?). If I do the 'oblivion tweaks' suggestions some people make and turn off grass I can get to 20 fps...but that doesn't hold in a fight. I REALLY want this portable... It's fully patched, tried reinstalling, and I 'think' my drivers are fully updated. I'm not sure what quick way there is to looking . They are as updated as they would be as of the 15th of this month (when this was built). 2 day shipping FTW :D.- Mike - |

Re: Oblivion running at 9-10 FPS on Vista
Your 7800 GTS is better card than laptops 8400M GS, so its not really a surprise that the desktop runs the game smoother. Anyways your laptop runs games better than most people's who come here with fps problems :)
PS: you can download newest drivers from nvidia.com. |

They didn't have any 7600 so they sent me the next step up ;p. I'll try latest drivers and see. I just find it hard to believe that this game can only be played at windows 95 looking graphics to be able to play on a laptop :P. - Mike - |

Re: Oblivion running at 9-10 FPS on Vista
The edit button is eluding me so I'm just going to post and say that all my drivers are updated and I don't see any improvement. Anyone know a good set of graphical options that doesn't hinder graphics much but aids fps well (like vertical sync off).
