Crash playing 3d games
I am experiencing a crash playing Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and Half Life 2 Episode 2. This is recent and I have not had problems with either of these games in the past and I have completed both. I am able to start both games and use the main menu, but when I load a level and begin to play my computer flashes an empty blue screen for 1/10 of the a second and reboots.
The windows error report is: BCCode : 1000008e BCP1 : C000001D BCP2 : E3498821 BCP3 : ADCF488C BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 768_1 whatever that means? I have upgraded the games, drivers, directx, .net framework (1.1, 2.0, 3.0), and windows update. However, this has no effect. I am able to run NBA Live 06, Madden 07, Jedi Knight 2, Company of Heroes, Raven Shield, and Battlefield 2 with no problems. I am attaching DxDiag.txt Does anyone know what is causing this crash and/or how to fix it? Thank you

Re: Crash playing 3d games
Right Click on My Computer and select properties. Under System Properties click the tab "advanced", under "Startup and Recovery" click the "Settings" button.
A new window will open, under "System failure" uncheck the box Automatically restart. So next time the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) appears you will be able to view the screen and the text, write down the "Stop Code". This will tells us all we need to know with whats wrong with your PC. After you have written the stop code or all of the message hit the restart button (or hold the on/off button) on your case to switch off or restart.

Re: Crash playing 3d games
I did that and the BSOD is pure blue with no text on it at all. I took the next step to solve the problem and reformatted the computer in hopes of just starting over. However, the same problem persists. Also I can play Simcity 4 deluxe but Rome Total War Crashes. Could this be a hardware failure with video card?

Re: Crash playing 3d games
In the Dxdiag try running the Direct X tests. If they pass it can rule out that DX9 is not corrupt and maybe your Graphic Card.
This link http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl/ is to a good Stress Test for your Graphics card. It will push it to the limit, if you see a Blue Screen again this could indicate a problem with the card.

Re: Crash playing 3d games
The Directx tests all passed. I attached a copy of my dxdiag.txt to this post. The program worked fine and looked really cool. I stressed it all the way down to where I was getting 2.5 fps and no crash or any problems whatsoever.
