Computer not performing on Crysis

I figured my computer would have plenty of resources to run Crysis on higher settings but it seems to only run it on medium decently. My friend can run Crysis on High settings and we have similar setups. Here is my setup.

My Comp:
2.8 Windsor Dual Core AMD 64-FX2
4 gigs of pc6400 RAM
10,000 Raptor Hard drive
nVidia BFG 6800GTS 640mb OC Graphics Card
Windows Vista 64-bit
Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe

The only thing I can really think of is that the operating system is on a separate 7200rpm hard drive and the game is on the raptor. I wanted to install it so bad I forgot that I installed it on a different hard drive. I don't use the Vista OS ever, so that's why it's on the separate hard drive. I didn't install the game on the raptor because I heard you can't use the "highest" setting unless you have Vista 64 bit edition.

Just wondering, thanks for you're opinions!

Re: Computer not performing on Crysis

You won't be able to use the highest settings with a 2.8MHz AMD and 6800GTS. I can run it on almost the highest settings in XP with an Intel E6850 and 8800GT at 1280x1024 with a tweaked config file, so a 6800GTS will struggle.

Have you tried dropping some of the more demanding settings slightly, like changing AA from x8 to x2 for example?

See here for a chart of all the settings that can be changed by tweaking the config file or running the in-game console.

Are all your drivers up to date? Have you installed the AMD Dual Core Optimizer?

Installing the game on a different drive to the OS is a good idea, even though the drive is 7200rpm compared to the 10,000rpm OS drive. The speed advantage of the Raptor would not compensate for the advantage of using 2 drives. I would install the game in XP to see what kind of framerates you get.

Have you run the benchmark tests? (Crysis\Bin32\Benchmark_GPU.bat and Benchmark_CPU.bat)

Oops! lol. It's an 8800 GTS 640mb overclocked by BFG.
I turned the AA off.
I am also running it at 1680x1050.
No I haven't installed the Dual Core Optimizer.
And why would there be an advantage to having the game on a different hd?

Thanks!

Ah! An 8800GTS, that's a different matter!

Is that your monitor's native resolution?

The Dual Core Optimizer probably won't have much effect in this case, but it is advisable to install on all AMD X2s to fix timing problems.

For a slight speed/performance increase, open the nvidia control panel and go to Display > 'Change flat panel scaling'. Change the setting to 'Do not scale'. Then go to 3D Settings > Manage 3D Settings and set the AntiAliasing mode to 'Application controlled'. This allows Crysis to control AA, which does a better job than leaving it to nvidia.

Having 2 drives means the OS data and game data can be accessed at the same time without slowdown. It's quite common to install the OS on a small partition of drive1, program files on a large partition of drive1, and games and swap file on drive2.

Yes, that's my monitors native res.

Interesting. So what's better to have on the fast hard drive? The game or the OS?

I'll try those settings when I get home, thanks!

Re: Computer not performing on Crysis

Run Crysis in DX9.0, you will find a huge performance increase, And then use my Crysis Tweak link and go to the second page there you will find another link to a tweak that can access DX10 features for DX9.

What power supply do you have, and what temps does the 8800 run at during Crysis?

Re: Computer not performing on Crysis

If possible run Crysis in 64-bit, 64-bit has better memory addressing and can use more system RAM than 32-bit.
In a way 64-bit can be slower if you have less than 1gb of RAM to play Crysis, in which use 32-bit.. But Crysis thrives in 64-bit on most systems.

Also make sure you have installed the AMD Dual Core Optimizer as it does increase system performance.
