[SOLVED] Desperate for CFS3 to run.

Can anyone help? I just bought Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3 and it keeps giving me the BSOD after about 30 seconds. Here are my specs.

Vista Home Premium 32 bit
Base board ASUSTek Computer Inc.
Chipset Intel i945P/G
4 GB Crucial DDR2 PC2-4200 RAM
Dual core 3.0 GHz Intel processors
250 GB Hard drive
NVIDIA XFX 8800 GTX 768MB DDR3
OCZ Game X Stream 700W
Saitek X52 controller & throttle

I have tried to run it in all the compatibility modes. No help. I remember changing some security settings once for some game to play but I can't remember what it was now.

Thanks.

Paul

Re: Desperate for CFS3 to run.

Hi Paul, welcome to TSF

To see the BSOD without the computer restarting, go to Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Startup & Recovery Settings button > System Failure and remove the checkmark from 'Automatically restart'.

The full BSOD message and error code will help pinpoint the cause of the problem.

Are all your drivers and DirectX up to date? Have you overclocked or made any changes in BIOS? Do you have this problem with any other games?

Re: Desperate for CFS3 to run.

koala, thank you for your reply.

1) XFX NVIDIA drivers are the latest. I deleted my old ones yesterday and even paid for and used Driver DotNet to remove all traces and installed the newest drivers. No help.

2) Direct X. I have tried using the Vista Windows update and have not seen a DirectX update. Do I have to do this separately?

3) No overclocking and wouldn't even begin to know how to do this.

4) No changes to BIOS and wouldn't know how to do this.

5) This happens ONLY with CFS3. I have read that there a lot of other people experiencing the same problem.

By the way, I have instant e-mail notification selected and the correct e-mail address yet I never received your reply via e-mail. Why? I had to come here, login, and search for my user name to see that you replied. I use a Mac for all my normal work with Safari and I have not had this problem with this same exact forum software before.

Thanks for your help.

Paul

Re: Desperate for CFS3 to run.

This game is very old (2002) so the problem could be from Either Vista or UR PC is very fast to handle the game, so it crashes, U have a Dual Core 3 Ghz and Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX, both are very new

Here is a solution for u:

If U have a Built in Video Card in the motherboard try to use it instead to run the game, (maybe u need to install the drivers of the Built in VGA from ur mother board CD ) I think ur shared VGA is Intel
Try this and reply the results

GOOD idea!

I will.

Only problem is there's something funny with this forum. It will not let me know through e-mail that there has been a reply.

Re: Desperate for CFS3 to run.

I've checked your forum options. Under 'Automatic Thread Subscription Mode' you've selected 'Daily email notification'.

Go to User CP (top left) and click 'Edit options' from the menu on the left. Scroll down to 'Default Thread Subscription Mode' and select 'Instant email notification' from the dropdown menu. Click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the screen to complete.

You can subscribe to any thread by going to Thread Tools (top right) and selecting 'Subscribe to this thread' from the dropdown menu.

Hi Rockmaster,

I bought this game today and am running the Nvidia 8500 card.

I am wondering how to revert to built-in video card or figure out if one exists on the motherboard in the first case.

Sorry for the newbie question.

Re: [SOLVED] Desperate for CFS3 to run.

I hope I'm not too late for answering, sorry but my internet was down for a while.
Anyways, to revert to your built in VGA, u need to go the BIOS, restart the PC and when the words : "Press DEL to enter setup" appears press DEL and u will enter SETUP, navigate the options and try to find the VGA settings, select Shared, sorry but I don't remember the details...
if u didn't figure out how, don't hesitate to reply and I'll see what I can do...
Hope I helped
Good Luck
