Flight Simulator 2004 Scenery freeze in Vista fix

I thought I would pass this along for what it is worth.
I have had problems with Flight Simulator 2004 having the scenery freeze
when used with Windows Vista. The simulator would continue to operate, however.
It seemed to get better in full screen mode.

I found that if you disable Vista Aero, everything works perfectly.
To do this, right click on the short cut for Flight Simulator and select the
compatibility tab and check "Disable desktop composition". Vista aero will be
disabled while in Flight simulator and reenabled when you exit.

I hope this will help someone else.

Paul

That is interesting, because due to VIsta's new graphics module, 3d rendering should have not effect from disabling aero? How much memory do you have?

Re: Flight Simulator 2004 Scenery freeze in Vista fix

I had been running the FS 2004 in Flight Simulator safe mode until I discovered that Aero was creating a problem. When I switched to Vista Basic it worked fine and I have had no further problems.

Re: Flight Simulator 2004 Scenery freeze in Vista fix

But Vista is not like XP in that is suspends all the aero "fruit" during 3d games anyway, so it is more likely to be lack of RAM.
