Graphical issues in PC games.

Hello,

I have issues running PC games properly. It's less obvious or not seen at all in some games but in others with an open environment like World of Warcraft or The Lord of the Rings Online I can see distant landscapes vibrating, and thin objects' edges aren't smooth (like poles or trees) when the games are in motion.

Another issue I have encountered in both MMO's is blocky shadows, some landscape shadows aren't smooth. When I enable DX10 shadows for The Lord of the Rings Online, they start vibrating also.

My PC specs are:

Quad Core Processor 2,4 GHz

4 GB RAM

8800GT

Vista 32 bit ( the 64 bit version wasn't available for purchase then)

Installing the latest drivers for my graphics card doesn't solve the problem.

I'd very much appreciate it if you could give me some advice, as I've been having this problem bothering me for quite a while.

Hi, welcome to TSF

What are your in-game graphics settings (anti-aliasing, texture quality, etc)? If you're using an LCD monitor, are you playing at the native resolution?

Re: Graphical issues in PC games.

My monitor is a Dell E207WFP and I usually play with high or maxed out settings and 4x oe 8x AA.

Yes, I play games at my monitor's native resolution which is 1680x1650.

Re: Graphical issues in PC games.

Maybe this is a driver issue. I have the 195.25 version for my video card. Could you recommend me another one? I also tried the latest beta drivers, by the way.

Re: Graphical issues in PC games.

Before reinstalling your graphics driver, go to Start > Run > dxdiag > Display tab and run the 2 tests. If there are any problems listed in the Notes box, reinstall DirectX, reboot and run the tests again.

As far as I know, Forceware 169.25 is the latest Vista32 driver for the 8800GT, at least that's the one that comes up on nvidia's driver download page when you enter 8800GT/Vista32 in the dropdown boxes.

You could also try Omega, which is an optimized version of the latest official Forceware 169.25

Re: Graphical issues in PC games.

I received this message:

The file nvd3dum.dll,nvwgf2um.dll is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). You may be able to get a WHQL logo'd driver from the hardware manufacture

I think I'm currently using one of the recent beta drivers, and not the 169.25 version anymore. Maybe that's why this message showed up.

I'll edit my mistake concerning the driver version, sorry.

Re: Graphical issues in PC games.

You can safely ignore the WHQL message and carry on installing the driver. If you're having trouble with the latest beta, try an earlier stable version.

I already had that version and it didn't help at all.

I just installed the Omega drivers and they don't solve the issue. Is there anything else that might be the cause of this? Reinstalling Vista didn't work either.
