2 Gigs of RAM and a XFX GeForce 8600 GT XXX 256MB PCIe w/Dual Link DVI

Hi,

Kinda new to this forum, I play as a Tactical Realism Infantryman in the Virtual 1st Cavalry Divisions Alpha Company, and I need to upgrade my computer.
Now I ordered these parts for my HP Pavilion a6000 2007 model, and I was just wondering, would they fit.

  1. Patriot 2048MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHz
  2. XFX GeForce 8600 GT XXX 256MB PCIe w/Dual Link DVI

I did next day delivery, so they will be here tommorow, and if ANYONE can do me a favor and send me a tutorial of how to install and put in my new video card, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
SPC W.Clark[1CD]

If you currently have an NVIDIA card, when the parts arrive, just leave them in their box for a moment. Go to the computer, boot it up and uninstall all the current nVidia drivers and shut down the computer.

Then physcially install the new hardware. Boot the computer, and when prompted for a driver for the new card, simply put the disk you get with the new hardware in, and the drivers should load up.

Hi W.Clark and welcome to TFS,
The first thing you should of done is check that your system is compatible with the hardware you've just purchased before you actually purchase it.

Also is there anymore characters to your PC model number. eg. a6000la. There are over 100 different a6000 models for 2007

Well, most HPs come shipped with a HP or Compaq board (Livermore, Leonite, Nettle) and this tends to vary depending upon where in the world the product is sold. That can be quite easily discovered by looking at the different model numbers and speciifications and realising that the hk or f etc at the end is merely indicative of a part of the world the product is sold in.

That however, doesn't really matter as all of the boards, as indeed most boards nowadays (see he bought the unit in 2007) support up to 4Gb of RAM (or at least the 2 he bought) and also a PCI-E slot.

I accept to be 100 percent certain we'd need to know the model number and check that HP hadn't decided to go insane with one particular motherboard and somehow make it into some sort of inbred failure, but baring that a HP computer post 2006 should be capable of utilising that hardware.
