Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines will not start

Hi, I'm kinda new here, and hope that someone can help me resolve this problem, or at least figure out what it is.

I recently purchased a copy of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines via EB Games download. After installing it, I tried to play the game, and nothing happened. My computer froze up. I still had control of the mouse, but I could not select anything on the desktop (which was still visible). O could not even access the Task manager. I tried reinstalling it, but that didn't work.

Make - HP Pavilion dv8000 Laptop

Power Supply - HP Power Supply Unit (90W) Came with computer

Motherboard – Hewlett-Packard 30A6

CPU – Intel Centrino Duo (Duel Core) T2600 @ 2.16GHz

RAM – 2047 MB SD RAM

Video Card(s) – NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400

Hard Drive(s) – C: 103.9 GB (NTFS) | D: 111.8 GB (NTFS) | E: 6.9 GB (FAT 32)

Operating System - Windows XP Build 2600 SP2

I'm having the same problem. Only difference is that I can't see the desktop, it's just grayed out. I still have the mouse and can't access the task manager either. I have to turn the pc off to get it to work again.
