fluctuating frame rates = mad lagg

Ok so i just built a new extreme budget pc
-asus m2n mx se plus
-2x 1gig kingston 667 ddr2's (each tested individually)
-Amd athlon 64 x2 6000 (3ghz)(am2)
-Msi nvidia nx8600gt 512mb ddr2 pci express (factory oc'ing)
-500 watt ultra ls atx psu
-seagate 500 gb sata 2 hdd
-pretty big case with 5 fans in it
-floppy, cd and dvd drives
-inherrited apple hd cinema display =]
-secondary psu for (floppy,2x cdds, and all fans)

So im running XP and everything seems fine, but when under stress such as games or high quality video, i have fluctuating frame-rates which gives me on and off, 10 seconds each, extreme lag.

When i ran 3d mark 03, it starts out with fps 600+ then 10 seconds later it is at 7-1 fps for ten seconds. It generally fluctuates between these two rates.

When i had this same rig with ann old ide hdd, for some reason it worked beautifully with crysis and call of duty 4 and all but i still dont know why it did, even though i was troubleshooting the lag for about a month.

As for temps, cooling and voltages:

Right now sensors view pro 3.1 is running. i have 39 processes including writing this and updating Portal on steam.

cpu temp 45 celcius
gpu temp 48 celcius
sys temp 47 celcius
aux temp 35 and hdd - 35

cpu usage 1-4 percent
cpu clock 3014 mhz
mem usage 24percent
hdd usage 0
nic usage 12

v core a 1.49
v core b 0.00 !!!!!!
+3.3v 3.39v
+5v 5.7v
+12v 12.4 v (unusual when in bios)
+5vsb 4.95v
+vbat 3.07v

i have 5 running fans in the case, 2 middle back pulling out, 1 lower left side pulling in, 1 intake in the mid-low front. and the cpu active heatsink. (my video card is passive and has this huge radiator)

So if anybody could tell me how to average out my frame-rates or iron out this lagg, it once was, please help!

Re: fluctuating frame rates = mad lagg

I just discoverd that when i put a big 12inch house fan on high, next to my case, blowing directly between the vid card and my cpu, Cpu usage gets cut in half! I was almost sure that my problem was a software problem, but even though my cpu temp is almost always below 50c with the fan on, my problem goes away.

Although i still need to find an alternative soulution, this fan is rediculously loud.
i used stock applied thermal paste w/ the stock active heatsink, another consideration is my 6 inch passive heatsink for my vid card.

Sensors view;
cpu 48
gpu 51
sys 48

Re: fluctuating frame rates = mad lagg

I have the same problem. Same processor and motherboard. Probably, I've found the solution in this forum ""http://forums.amd.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=22&threadid=95179&enterthread=y"".

check this out!
