Need a quick answer on PC upgrade for games
I'm running a 3000+ AMD 64 on a GA-K8N-SLi motherboard and an Inno3d 7600GS 256meg with 2x 512mb sticks of DDR400.
I was wondering. Should I upgrade to AM2 and get all the doodads required and keep my 7600GS for a bit longer? Or should I buy a 9600GT extreme and be stuck with my 3000+ until I get an upgraded 939 socket CPU? Which would be the best in terms of gaming in the short term (aka crysis and bioshock)

Re: Need a quick answer on PC upgrade for games
Heh hey mate. I went for a full upgrade minute the gfx card.
I posted this a week ago in the hope someone would give me an answer before I went out and got my stuff. Ended up with a 4400+ x2, ASUS M3A, 2gb corsair select. Keeping my 7600GS for a bit, o/c'd it and coupled with my new CPU, the increase of frames in Assassins creed is definantly huge ;) ::EDIT:: Got an antec truepower 550w coming pending sale of my old bits, plus got a 8800GT 512 coming in a week or so.

Quote:
![]() To see if the 550W Truepower can handle the upgrades, enter your full system specs, including the 8800GT, into this power calculator and set Capacitor Aging to 25%. Click the Calculate button, then add 30% to the total to allow for PSU inefficiency.

Re: Need a quick answer on PC upgrade for games
My question was something along the lines of "Which would get me more performance in games" and I was in a rush when I posted :P
As for the PSU, the guy is running a system slightly higher than mine on the PSU, so I know it can handle it. He's selling to upgrade to SLi, and I'm getting his old 8800GT :)
