Lag on everything
My CPU ran fine on every game I played a couple months ago. Some games that I played were : Bioshock, Battlefield 2, Day of Defeat, Counter Strike Source, Test Drive Unlimited, Team Fortress 2, etc. I ran all of these on the highest settings without any problems (bioshock ran a tiny bit shaky). Then I took about a month break of video games. When I came back, I couldnt run Day of defeat, Counter Strike, or anything without super duper lag. I then scanned with panda antivirus (the free scan on the site) and adware. I guess i had a few viruses and some spyware, so i reformatted. Before i added back everything that i had, I scanned it all with AVG antivirus and the anti spyware. Nothing detected. Now, I can run the games, but they are super shaky. Call of duty 4 is a recent purchase of mine, and its pretty shaky for me. Bioshock is like impossible to play due to the lag. Battlefield is the same way. I have no idea whats going on. My CPU specs are as followed:
Windows XP Sp2 1.75 gigs of ram (ddr 333) Intel P4 3.0 Nvidia Geforce 7600 GTS PCI express Intel 915GAV board The voltages for my PSU are : processor zone temp: 92C System Zone 1 Temp : 58 C System Zone 2 Temp: 59C Processor Fan Speed: 2403 Rear Fan Speed: 0 RPM Front Fan Speed: 0 RPM +1.5Vin: 1.467 V Vccp 1.223 +3.3Vin 3.362 +5Vin 5.263 +12Vin 11. something I just saw the temps as i was typing this out and i think that they are my problem. Any suggestions? |

Re: Lag on everything
woah. If your proc is actually running at 92C like it says, that would be a MAJOR problem. That's really hot.
EDIT: Install speedfan and see what kinds of results you get for temperatures, it's usually pretty reliable. Last edited by zaknafein72; 03-09-2008 at 08:45 PM. |

Re: Lag on everything
Hi, 92C is WAY too hot for a processor, that processor should run around 40C maybe 50 at most.
Take the side panel off the case and check your processor fan is spinning. If it is then check the heatsink (the big metal block with the fan on it) is securely fitted to the processor. If it then turn off the system and try taking it off (theres 2 levers on the top of it, just flip them and it should come off easily, dont forget to unplug the fan wire, note where it was plugged in), wipe the processor and put on some arctic silver thermal paste (should be able to get this at any computer shop), then put the heatsink back on and the fan back in and try it again. If its still too hot try replacing the heatsink, also check for dust and blow out any. Good luck with it:). Last edited by Thething; 03-10-2008 at 01:49 AM. |

Re: Lag on everything
Download your chipset drivers from here: http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-011594.htm
install, shutdown Reapply your thermal paste. Clear dust. Restart. Post results

Re: Lag on everything
Hey I just bought a new heatsink and it runs great. Max out at around 58 degrees running full. I still think thats a little hot, maybe I need to do the thermal grease ideal thing again because it was already on the fan pre applied. Maybe that wasn't enough. Anyways, I have a new problem; Sometimes my CPU turns on, but doesn't boot. My brother told me to check and make sure that the power from the PSU going to the motherboard is ok and securely in and to also check if there were any loose screws or anything anywhere in there. I didn't find any of that was out of order. Any suggestions?
The fan I bought was the Masscool 8wa71 http://www.masscool.com/masscool/Product.aspx?ID=283 Also, can I run my PC without the case fan? I powered it up w/o the case fan and it ran the same temps but a lot quieter. Last edited by Zephier; 03-27-2008 at 10:51 AM. |

Re: Lag on everything
You need to reapply thermal grease EVERY time you remove the heatsink. YOu only need to apply a small amount (about the size of a rice grain) but it needs to applied properly. I would suggest applying Arctic Silver 5 shown here: http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm

Re: Lag on everything
Hi, I have the same problem too. My computer ran fine on all games that I played months ago. But now, I have lag on every game I play. The games I played before i had lag was Halo. Also, when I try to play cod4, sometimes objects would go dark black such as my character, ai's, buildings, etc. Im using a Windows Vista Home premium
-Proccessoro- AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual core proccessor 4600+ 2.40 GHz -RAM- 1918 MB -System type- 32-bit operating system. Please help im not sure what to do! |

Re: Lag on everything
Hah, well I found my problem. My PSU has gone bad. Funny thing, though, because it's only a year old. Could my new heatsink overloaded it? I unplugged the power to the roms and the CPU booted up fine and worked good. I plugged them back in, and turned the CPU on and this is what happened:
Fan turned at very high RPM, then slowed a little, I looked in the case and there was fire coming from the power connector to the mobo. Turned the CPU off. I wonder what caused this. |

Re: Lag on everything
start in safe mode, go to system properties, prevent automatic restart on BSOD, restart normally, record BSOD message, post it in this thread.
