Hangs with sound
Hi
I didn't know where to place this. I thought of putting it in some of the hardware forums, but I don't know what's wrong so... I didnt. Problem When I try to play a game it suddenly freezes. It stops and plays a sound repeated very fast like if the cd is scratched for a few seconds. But I have copied CDs onto my computer, and runs them through MagicISO. I can't do anythinig when it freezes, since the wireless keyboard's LEDs are flashing and the keyboard can't be used. So this happens between 2 and 20 minutes into a game, often very early. It ONLY happens in games, not in normal applications. Also, it seems to only happen IN THE GAME, not in the menus of the game. This is my computer AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core 5600+ 2,79 GHz 2048 MB RAM NVIDIA Geforce 8400GS 256 MB Games I've tried Age of Empires 3 Customplay golf NHL 08 Need for speed: Carbon - doesn't hang What I've tried Lowering the hardware acceleration Lowering the ingame graphics Try running the game using only one CPU core (both first and second) Watched SpeedFan which shows temperatures that are OK Anyone who recognises this problem? I appreciate any help. |

Re: Hangs with sound
Before I start to analyze the problem any further let me get clarification on one thing. You have copied the game cd-roms to your hard drive and have mounted them on a virtual drive using MagicISO?
If that is the case I can definitely tell you where the issue lies. |

And yes, I've bought them. The reason why I've copied them onto my computer is because the DVD-player is very loud. |

Re: Hangs with sound
I'm not going to cast judgment on whether or not these are legal copies.
In any case MagicISO is actually a subpar virtual drive program. Daemontools lite is a much better solution. Try recreating the images using Daemontools lite and mounting them with it instead. In any case the games may not work being mounted with images without no CD cracks. If that is the case my help ends here. I know for a fact that at least two of those games use Starforce CD protection software, which would make it impossible to use any image program to play them. |
