Wireless gaming
I'm currently using a wireless card for my internet. Now I like the convenience cause I don't have to run an ethernet cord downstairs into my family room where the modem is. But lately I've been getting really low connection strength and speed. Is this because of the router I use? http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satel...9789B01#widget
Tons of my friends use this for their wireless gaming. But I lag on occasion and it's getting to a point where I'm thinking of getting an ethernet cord. Any suggestions on what I should do? Or how to make the connection better etc. Anything would be appreciated

Re: Wireless gaming
The wireless signal has to travel through a floor and some walls, so you will be getting a lot of interference.
I use to have the same problem as you, but i found spending a bit of extra money will solve this problem. You can get an Omni-Directional Indoor Antenna. http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=325 (4dBi) http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=416 (7dBi) They vary in price the 7dBi is about $59-79 AUS Dollars I have a 7dBi on my router and a 7dBi on my PC because i go through 3 brick walls at a distance of 15m. I get a very strong signal with a throughput of 108mb/s.

Re: Wireless gaming
things that break wireless:
1) distance counts 2) interference, solid objects, wireless phones in the 2.4ghz range, microwaves (physically placed between conection points) 3) lots of usage (long sessions and or multiple wireless users), the antennes get hot the device slows the connection to prevent damage 4) drivers (in vista mainly) solution run a cable its an absolute pain in the **** but after 4-6 months of shitty network connection i ran the bloody cable gigabit lan FTW |
