Lag issues.
I play FFXI on a Laptop.
I use wireless interenet. I need an idea why when I run FFXI and another program like TeamSpeak or Yahoo Messenger at the same time, they start to lag eachother out. FFXI screens jump and voice on Yahoo or TS cuts out. I didnt have this problem until a few weeks ago and wanted to know if there is anyway I can fix this. Im thinking its more with the router then anything but maybe it is the sending/rcving part of my laptop. Any input would be wonderful. Thanks. |

Re: Lag issues.
It might have something to do with your "upload" speed. I am not familar with "wireless" but do have satellite (WildBlue) and found any online gaming can be problematic with lag/ping rates. But that depends on the online game.
But It could be your router or your laptop "sending/receiving" and want to check that. With the router, it could be a simple "readjustment" reconnection to your router. My son's satellite router serves as my DSL, and a few days ago, our satellite service went through a maintance which gave it a "hiccup". Our downloads/upload speeds slowed way down and finally we lost "connection" all together. Apparently that scheduled maintance gave several users the same "hiccups". He called WB support to explain the situation and was told what happened. The correction was easy enough. Basically, disconnecting and reconnecting the router was needed which resulted for a final readjustment. After that, no more problems. But he is using a Dell Inspiron 520 2ghz Duo desktop, not a laptop. Lag With satellite (and wireless I imagine) download speeds are high, of course, but the upload lag comes from the distances the signal has to travel from point A to point B. Smaller packets are sent "upload" than if using DSL, Cable or even dial up that were developed to handle larger ones, down or up. With Satellite, it's literally "Up", "Down" and back "Up"....and it's "shared" system. With wireless, you are probably using a tower but still...... However, in the meantime you can try looking through your wireless provider's forums or go to your wireless provider's "Forums at dslreports.com" Just scroll down to yours.
