Re: can't install an old game

First, have you uninstalled, Reinstalled and Rebooted?

Sometimes with older games, a file might not get downloaded properly from the cd and this "gamer's mantra" helps. Especially if you have more than one cd to install. Might have to go through this more than once.

Did you get any error messages? If so what was it? Are there any scratches on the disks?

You might want to check the TWCenter.net's "Rome:Total War" Technical Help Forums to see if anyone else has the same problem.

From running my own Official PC Game website's forums as Admin, "Stickies" are always helpful (especially when they are read
So here is their "A Bunch of How-to's and....." sticky that might help.

MMmmmm. According "Hader" (moderator) who created the sticky:

Remember though, when you uninstall to also delete the RTW main folder to erase all traces of the game, so you can perform a fresh install.

Re: can't install an old game

First, your best bet is to register in the Rome Total War Technical Help forums and post your error messages there. What you are asking is what they are more knowledgeable about and in giving you specific help to clear up this problem.

Unfortunately, I do not play this game myself. My previous computers were not good enough to try it (until recently) What I have given you are basic gamer "tech tips" that cover most general game problems with the owners comps.

It has been my experience that a game's community (especially with an "Old game" as popular as this one) is your best source of help with sticky problems like yours. They act more like a close knit "family". So a newbie is never a "noob". Only a fellow gamer who rediscovered an old favorite. A formerly well played and well loved game that just needs some TLC to get going again.
