Rise of Nations Vista 64 Problem

Hello,

I am running Vista x64 and after installing RON, I can play the game just fine. However, after I save a game and return, I receive a error messaging stating that the game stopped working - very generic error message. The specific Repro steps are:

1) start the game
2) load a saved game (the game loads and shows the TIPS dialog screen)
3) after selecting "Close" the tips screen, the error occurs.

However, when I start a new game, I am able to play the game just fine. This problem only occurs when I tried to load a saved game and play.

As a FYI, my PC is new with the following components (in case this info helps troubleshoot this issue):
  • Vista x64
  • 4 GB RAM
  • Gigabyte 8600 GT video card
  • Gigabyte P35-DS3L mobo
  • E4500 OC'd from 2.2 to 3.0
  • Temp is running at around 35C

I am guessing that his may a compatibility issue. However, I had set the game to run in Windows XP SP2 mode.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Rise of Nations Vista 64 Problem

I have Vista 32 bit, but I have the same problem. I can play the whole game just fine, but when I open a saved game it stops working. The strange thing is that it will load the game and pop up the tips page, but it doesnt stop working till I close the tips page.

Re: Rise of Nations Vista 64 Problem

Hi Drew,

FWIW, I never found a resolution to the issue. I had rebuilt the machine to 32-bit and the problem went away.
