All of My Games Crash

Hello, this is my first post on this forum, and quite frankly my last resort. I have search through hundreds of forum threads with the same problem, I've tried each solution, none of them have worked. I must be a unique case. As you probably already know all of my games crash while in mid game. This as you can imagine is the most frustrating thing to ever happen to me tech wise. I will give some back ground info on everything. I will warn you I do not know how to use benchmarking software like 3dmark or whatever I'm a total noob at that and diagnostic software. Oh and I'm also not overclocking anything I had a bad experience with that crap. I would also like to add that I have been experiencing this for a long time and update my drivers whenever a new one comes out hoping that it'll fix my problem with no luck yet.

My computer is totally custom built:
AMD X2 4200+
ASUS M2N32- SLI Deluxe AM2 motherboard (590 SLI AMD nforce chip drivers)
2gigs (2x1024mb) Cosair XM2 dual channel DDR2 800
Seagate Baracuda 250 gig HD 32mb cache (SATA)
EvGa Nvidia 7900GTO (not a GT) with 512mb (DVI to a Hanns G 22" widescreen LCD running at 75 hertz)
Integrated 5.1 Soundmax Audio
Lite-on SATA DVD rom
Ben-q IDE DVD-R
Ultra 700 watt Power Supply plugged into an IBM Surge protector
I have all this stuffed into a NZXT case, with 2 Huge case fans, stock CPU heatsink and fan, passive heating on the northbridge and chipset
OS: Vista x86 Ultimate Edition (updated frequently)

Temps and voltages that I know using ASUS PC Probe
Vcore 1.34v
CPU 46C
MB 45C

Now onto the games and problems with them:
I'm a huge gamer
F.E.A.R
(about 10-15 minutes of playing time, stops and goes to the desktop with a F.E.A.R.exe has stopped working pop up)
FarCry
(about 10 minutes at max of playing time sometimes as short as 2 minutes and a crash while loading, FarCry critical exception memory could not be read or memory could not be wirtten)
Hitman Bloodmoney
(around 20-30 minutes then a crash to the desktop, Hitman.exe has stopped working)
Halo Combat Evolved
(on average 5-10 muntues of playing time before a pop up and crash, pop up says Halo is gathering data for exception, followed by Halo.exe has stopped working, when restarted is gives the option of safe mode, even when in safe mode it preforms the same way just without all the bells and whistles)
Need for Speed Carbon
(20-35 miuntes of playing time before crash, Speed.exe has stopped working)
Need for Speed Pro Street
(this is an odd case, I can not find any configuration of graphics whether no flash at all or all the trimming the game is still unbearably slow, probably around 12 fps is terrible, again after around 15-20 minutes crashes to desktop and states NFS.exe has stopped working)
MY BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT
Call of Duty 4
(Single player average of 30-40 minutes on medium settings before a crash to desktop and then IWSP.exe has stopped working, Multiplayer, several situtations of crashes, its either 50 minutes of solid play and then a crash to desktop, IWMP.exe has stopped working. After it crashes once I have to restart my computer in order for it to get past the loading screen without another crash.)

All of these games have the latest patches on them, and I still have this problem, sometimes the patches actually make the problem worse and I roll them back, but for most they are updated to the most recent material out there.

That's my situation, it sucks something fierce and I've been dealing with it since I got this PC about a year ago. I update my BIOS whenever a new verison is out in hopes that'll cure my PC, nope. I also took the side panel off of my case and stuck a 12" fan inplace of it blowing onto my motherboard. Oh their isn't a specific situation in each game where it'll freeze, there was no instance where if i went to a certain place or had a certain weapon where it would crash. It was totally random, sometimes resulting in a BSOD with the following error: nv4.dll (or something of that nature) USBPORT.sys, Page in non paged area, and there's time where it doesn't give my a file path. Just a few more tidbits of info my Hd is about 1/3 full with music, I still have 150 gigs of free space on that, to keep up with the junk I run a defrag every monday and I also use ccleaner on it normally before I shut it down. I clean the dust out of my case on a bi monthly basis. Also Desktop manager crashes a buttload of times on me during normal operation. That's really all the background on my situtation sorry for writting a book I just really, really need some help. Thank you very much for reading all of this and thank you in advance for all the replies!

Re: All of My Games Crash

Oh I don't mean to double post but to answer the rest of your question this install of windows is about 2 months old. I've reinstalled Vista x86 a total or 4 times, and I've installed vista x64 twice. Currently x86 is running better and its more compatible with my games.

Re: All of My Games Crash

Real quick could you put the dxdiag into the [ code ] [ \code ]

It looks to me that your dxdiag is reporting everything is good.

Are there any IRQ conflicts reported in your BIOS? Does it crash when you do anything other than game? Are there any errors reported in your device manager?

I hope we can solve this!

Re: All of My Games Crash

Yeah it will have spasms where it will have BSOD's while idling. My most common ones are IRQL not less or equal and the ones I stated above, the USBPORT and the nv4.dll. I'm not sure what IRQ is or how to check for conflicts with it. It'll normally crash in a couple situations, idle, when i'm using internet explorer, and during games.

Re: All of My Games Crash

Those are temps while idle. I can't check the temps while gaming or the game will crash, I'll try though.

Re: All of My Games Crash

Try to play for 30 mins then check the temps. Or as long as the game will stay on. I think this definitely might be an overheating issue.

Re: All of My Games Crash

Yep that what it seems like, an overheating issue. But since everything is new and its been doing that since you got it maybe you installed the heatsink on wrong? Did you use arctic paste between heatsink and cpu whilst isntalling? I had an issue like this with my old comp but it was cause I had alot of dust in all my fans, when sprayed out, it went away. This must be a ecu problem methinks, check ecu temps and such whilst playing, even if it shuts off your game.

Re: All of My Games Crash

Check airflows, add fans as necessary, and check the cpu fan as he stated above.

Re: All of My Games Crash

Ok in response to your suggestions. MY CPU has the stock heat sink installed on it, I did NOT apply any heat transfer paste as the directions on the box for the CPU stated not to. Instead there is this little fabric like patch on the bottom of my heat sink and that patch of material sits right on top of the CPU. My tempatures were about 6 degrees higher after gaming for 12 minutes followed by a BSOD. AS far as the over heating issue I have removed the side of my case and put a small room fan in its place blowing on everything in my case all components. Other than that I have a terribly small fan on the GPU, the stock fan on the heatsink for the CPU, a fan blowing down on the chipset, and finally a huge case fan mounted in the back. So more fans should solve my BSOD's and my gaming issues?

My System

Re: All of My Games Crash

Those are pretty high idle temps, I'm running a A64 5000 black edition OC'd to 3.0ghz and my idle temps are 31c, 44c-45c under full load. I would take the heatsink off and clean the paste off both surfaces, and reapply some decent thermal paste like Arctic Silver 5, or similar. You might also consider getting an after market cooler to replace the stock one. Also check your memory voltage, that Corsair needs 2.1v to run at those speeds. Some Asus boards default to 1.9v. It seems to me excess heat is your worst enemy. Mike

Re: All of My Games Crash

Mike thanks for that tip with the memory, My dims right now are running on 1.8vs and if they require nice 2.1vs that could be a serious performance hit. But thanks for the suggestions and I'll check back if the cleaning and let you know if it solved my dilemma.

Re: All of My Games Crash

I highly recommend replacing your cpu fan with something like a coolermaster.
