Help please - UT3 - lack of graphics

I bought my son UT3 for Christmas and it loads OK (as in it works) but the graphics are so poor they are unplayable (like 3 colour-wash blurred).
I thought our PC would cope with minimum spec
we have:
AMD Athlon3000+ (2.16Ghz)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card
1Gb RAM
Windows XP + service pack2

As the game works I guess the processor is 'handling it' - is the 9800Pro not upto it? (min spec says 9600)
Thanks for any support (not too tech please!)

Minumum may say 9600 but it recommends a x1300.
Have you tried turning the graphics settings down, or turning some of the extra features off? Maybe you just have it up too high for the card.

Re: Help please - UT3 - lack of graphics

It seems that the game automatically has set everything to lowest. Not sure if there's anything else I can adjust. If 9600 is stated as OK I assume 9800 Pro is slightly higher and should be at least capable of something?
Thx for reply

Re: Help please - UT3 - lack of graphics

Be sure to set the resolution to 640 by 480 and double check everything is set at its lowest.

Are the video card drivers up to date? If they are I could walk you through how to possibly gain some more speed from the settings on your graphics card.
