"Call of Duty" error message

attempting initial install of Activisions "Call of Duty 4" for win xp/vista from DVD. error message" E:/-is not a win 32 appplication." E is my dvd drive in which the DVD was placed. No problems loading any other software , auto-run works fine with other cd/dvd except this one. Attempts to open setup file from dvd generate same error. No new mods to system or os. System config is as follows and meets all min requirements for software:
Home build : AMD dual core X2 2.01 GHZ
ASUS A8NE socket 939 Mobo
Nvidia force 4 chipset
DDR 333 Ram 2GB
Nvidia GT 66oo video card
LiteOn DVD/CD dual layer drive using InCD software
Seagate Sata II 200 GB vertical write HD
Phoeniz Bios
Bios and all drivers updated 6 mos ago.
OS: Windows XP prof. SP 2 with recent MS security updates

Why this error message when this program clearly is Win XP
compatible?
