I just installed call of duty 4 and wen it starts up i get sound but no picture the monitor just goes black and can hear it flicking on and off like wen u change resolution. Im running win xp, and my pc specs above requirements and running a nvidia 8600gts. Also tried safe mode didnt work either

Make sure your settings in the nvidia control panel are not trying to override the default video settings of the game.

another good idea would to be sure your video driver is up to date.

my drivers are not the latest cos the latest drivers cause a problem with showing a screen with windows altogether so im running the drivers from the previous version. How do i make sure my settings in the nvidia control panel are not trying to override the default video settings of the game. Would i need to be using a high definition lcd?

my driver is forceware version 162.18 and im using directx 9.0c

look under manage 3d settings,and make sure all the categories say application controlled.

looks correct to me.check under power options in the control panel.set the monitor to never shut off.

ok i just set it to never turn off and nothing changed. i got a real old monitor a compaq 7550, and i had to use an adapter for it to connect to my video card would dat have anything to do with it

what kind of adapter?is it a vga to dvi adapter?if so thats not a problem i use one of those for my secondary monitor.how old is this monitor?is it possible you have the games resolution set to high for it?

the game tries to run on 800x600 resolution but my pc wont let me set it to dat resolution unless i set the refresh rate higher. i dont know why i cant use dat resolution wen i try set it to that it does da same thing as wen i try run cod4.

what is your monitors max resolution 1024x768?

it will let me set as high as 1600x1200 but im notn sure about the spec of the monitor

thats a high resolution for a 17inch screen,but i looked it up to make sure.that monitor has a max res of what you run it at.also how old is that monitor?

its a 19" and not sure how old its not a flat screen or lcd or anything its da old type

do you have another monitor you could test with?that would rule out if its a monitor problem,or not.

no ill just have to wait til next week im getting a 26" hdlcd tv ill try it on that
