[SOLVED] Gaming FPS Problems
I am having trouble with FPS in games that I am playing now. My system is the following:
CPU Case: HP Pavilion Laptop with Targus Cooling Pad Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 7600 GoSeries Processor: Intel Centrino Duo 1.87 ghz 2MB cache 533 FSB RAM: 2GB Ram 667 DIMMS OS: Windows Vista Home Premium Hard Drive: 120GB (don't know brand, pre-built laptop) NTFS File System Normally I run around 60-100 FPS constand in CounterStrike: Source. Recently, I have been running around 10-50 with 40 FPS less on the video stress test. I have run a virus scan, which came up clean. I also tried reinstalling the game, and it still didn't fix the problem. Its not only CS:S, but also in WoW I get major FPS spikes around 2 or 3. Thanks for your help in advance. Re: Gaming FPS Problems
If it's not a latency problem, have you installed any new programs, etc, that might be taking up system resources? Try testing a few other games as well, notably ones that [i]aren't[/] online but use similar specs to those games. For example, run CS: Source with bots, not online...

Re: Gaming FPS Problems
I just tested out some non-online games, and they are all working just as slow. I tried UT offline and got spikes every few seconds. I also ran CSS with 9 bots and got around 30 FPS. Normally I can play with 9 bots on and get like 60-70 FPS.
Pingwise in most servers located in Chicago I get about 75 ping. In NY I get around 65 ping. I live outside of Tampa, Florida, so I don't usually get the best of pings. The only software that I installed prior to getting these issues was GSC and an Xfire update. I also put in an FPS config into my CFG file in CSS and it ended up hurting my FPS. I took it out and it still didn't run normally. That is why I reinstalled CSS, to try and fix that problem. It still isn't running how it normally does. Re: Gaming FPS Problems
if this problem just started i would scan for viruses, and spyware just to rule that out.
edit: my bad you already scanned for viruses, but have you scanned for spyware?also what did you use to scan for viruses?

Re: Gaming FPS Problems
Fixed it myself, somehow Vista decided to enable power save mode continuously causing my CPU to run at 1005 Mhz.
m1stery check your power management settings under the control panel, preferably just set everything to default and see if that helps you too. |

Re: Gaming FPS Problems
Thanks for your help guys. It ended up being that my computer was set so that whenever I unplugged the charger it would go to power saver, and it wouldn't change back when it was plugged back in. Figures :/
