Vista vs XP

Will games developed for Windows XP play on Vista? I know a lot of games developed for Windows 95 and 98 won't play on XP, regardless of what you do.

Re: Vista vs XP

99.99999999999999% of the time, yes they will work. You may get a few exceptions, but for those, just try compatibility mode like pharoah said.

In layman's terms, 2K/XP had a different structure from 95/98, which is why a lot of 95/98 games won't work on 2K/XP. However, XP and Vista are built mostly the same way.

Re: Vista vs XP

I know from experience that compatibility mode will not work for a lot of games.

Re: Vista vs XP

When trying to run XP games in Vista, or when trying to run 95/98 games in 2K/XP? I know that the latter hardly ever works, but I'd be surprised if you said the former...

I know a lot of 95 games won't work in XP but I have played quite a few 98 games in XP and Vista with no problems. What games are you trying to run?

Games that used the Duke Nuke'm engine. I know a "fix" has been posted, but I still can't get them to run.

Re: Vista vs XP

That's exactly the reason why I got myself an old Windows 98 system - I had trouble getting lots of my 95/98 games to play on XP. Trust me, the time and effort and frustration saved is definitely worth it.
