2142-Vista Problems
I've just bought a new laptop: 2Gb RAM, 2.2Ghz C2Duo CPU and a 512mb 8600M GT - not bad, but then not nearly great. However, judging from the performance I got on the last system, I knew it ought to play 2142 pretty nicely. So, I installed it, patched it up to the latest patch, 1.40 and...
It won't work. After starting it, the loading window appears (with the battle walker etc.), the screen goes black as it used to but then the desktop appears with the error message "BF2142.exe has stopped working." It does this running it as admin and not admin, andin all the compatibility modes, it fails to recognise the disk, asking me to insert it, even though it is in the drive. I'm on 32 bit Vista Home Premium. Can someone please help me? I'd like to get in some good games of this before people stop playing it entirely. Oh, and it did this before and after patching 2142, before and after updating Windows, and after updating my Video Card Drivers. Thanks in advance! |

do you have more than one cd/dvd drive?if so be sure the disc is in the same drive that it was installed from.

Re: 2142-Vista Problems
seem like it may be something in the registry that links the program to the drive.id just reinstall it after deleting files, and running regedit to delete all registry entries for the game.

Re: 2142-Vista Problems
in the run box type in "regedit" then just search for the game in there.

Re: 2142-Vista Problems
So, uninstalled it, ran regedit, had a look and deleted everything I could find on Battlefield 2142; reinstalled it and patched it...same thing happens.
Any other ideas? |

Re: 2142-Vista Problems
OH MAN IS THIS FRUSTRATING :) I've read through just about every forum on the 2142 vista fopaw. Still nothing. So...i'm running the 32bit vista, 3g ram, 8800GTX, 3.8p4, 500w psu..... yada yada yada. I have installed, uninstalled, reinstalled etc. and same for the 1.4v patch. I have tried to run as an admin, i have changed the video settings back so it refreshes at 60hz, taken the widescreen settings off. So what is happening is when I double click on the .exe my computer shows (on my g15 keyboard screen) that my CPU spins up to about 50% usage for 3 seconds, then drops back to zero. The screen doesn't even change. So basically nothing about battlefield 2142 runs. Any ideas? ;) ps. my computer runs other graphic intensive games great ie: World in Conflict.

Re: 2142-Vista Problems
I was a little pissed when I was writing that post :) Anyway, I have tried everything from reinstalling the game to trying the small changes such as refresh rate changes and running as admin. Basically when I try and boot the game, I double click on the .exe file and absolutely nothing happens. I mean the screen doesn't flicker,... Do you have any ideas? I even checked the task manager and watched the processes when I tried to start BF2142 and nothing appeared.?? Thanks-

Re: 2142-Vista Problems
What what? I bumped the thread (brought it back to the top of the forum page by posting in it) to try and get a response.
Also, don't want to sound like a ghey, but unless your problem is exactly the same as the one described by the thread starter, you ought to make your own thread concerning your problem - just browsing the PC Gaming Support section, I noticed that you had "hijacked" someone elses thread too and, again, the problem you described wasn't like that of the thread starter. If you'd like to get help with your particular problem, I'd advise you to start your own thread, as then those trying to help wouldn't get distracted by your problem in my thread, and at the same time, with your own thread, you'd have someone focusing specifically on the problem you are having. Peace. |

Re: 2142-Vista Problems
It is a Rock Pegasus 670, you'll only find them in the UK, where I am.
Their site: http://www.rockdirect.com/ You'll have to explain firmware to me, I'm not quite sure what it means. Also, as it would appear to be relevant, it should be noted that I had to send it back shortly after it arriving to be repaired, as the HD-DVD drive (comes as standard) wasn't working properly - the drive would, occasionally, not respond when I pressed the eject button. That problem has now been fixed. I don't know if that cd have anything to do with it, but as you're asking about the disc drive, I though I'd say something. |
