Hi All,
I recently bought a new laptop from HP. The model is "HP Pavilion v9500" CPU: AMD 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-58 1.90 GHz Ram: 2 gigs Here are the settings from my Graphics Card: [Display] Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista DirectX version: 10.0 GPU processor: GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M ForceWare version: 101.47 Total available graphics memory: 559 MB Dedicated video memory: 64 MB System video memory: 0 MB Shared system memory: 495 MB Video BIOS version: 5.67.32.25.01 IRQ: 10 [Components] nvCplUIR.dll 1.4.2.62 NVIDIA Control Panel nvCpl.cpl 1.4.2.62 NVIDIA Control Panel Applet nvExpBar.dll 1.4.2.62 NVIDIA Control Panel nvCplUI.exe 1.4.2.62 NVIDIA Control Panel nvViTvSR.dll 7.15.11.0147 NVIDIA Video and TV Server nvViTvS.dll 7.15.11.0147 NVIDIA Video and TV Server nvDispSR.dll 7.15.11.0147 NVIDIA Display Server NVMCTRAY.DLL 7.15.11.0147 NVIDIA Media Center Library nvDispS.dll 7.15.11.0147 NVIDIA Display Server NVCPL.DLL 7.15.11.0147 NVIDIA Compatible Windows 2000 Display driver, Version 101.47 nvGameSR.dll 7.15.11.0147 NVIDIA 3D Settings Server nvGameS.dll 7.15.11.0147 NVIDIA 3D Settings Server OK, so the problem is that whenever I run Warcraft III, which I play only occasionally, the graphics seems somewhat choppy, and gameplay itself is noticably "laggy" even if I am playing one player. This seems to happen especially when there are lots of units being spawned. I have tried disabling a lot of window's services according to Black Viper's Website, removing some of Vista's visual effects for performance, but none of these actions have really helped the problem. My last suspicision is that my graphics card may not be able to handle the game and Vista's "Performance Information and Tools" Program seems to confirm this, because it gives my "Gaming Graphics' category a subscore of only 2.6. The next lowest category is "Graphics" with 3.1. Nevertheless, I have played wc3 on a lot of computers before, and I have never seen that much lag. Even on my old desktop, which runs on a single core Intel processor, with 1 gig of ram and a old Radeon 9000, the game plays w/o too much of a hitch. Sry for the long post, but does anyone have any solutions for this? Tweak graphics card? Install XP instead? A program to temporarily disable services/programs to improve gameplay? Thx in advance for your help. |

Re: Gaming Problems on New Laptop.
it is one of 2 things.its either the video card is not sufficient,or amd cool&quiet is throttling the cpu.look in the computers bios to see if you can turn cool&quiet off.that will effect your battery life, but may fix the problem.

Re: Gaming Problems on New Laptop.
Thanks for the reply. I also tried lowering the resolution in WC3, and that seemed to improve performance significantly, though at a loss of quality. I also looked up some articles on C&Q, and there seems to be a lot of controversy over how 'useful' it actually is. But in your opinion, should I disable it?

Re: Gaming Problems on New Laptop.
Dude, I have a hp Pavilion dv 6625us with a 7150m/nforce630m, firts of all, I see the dedicated video memory is set to 64, you must set the dedicated video memory to 128, you can do this in the BIOS. Second, your current driver is 101.47, you should download the latest driver for you IGP from www.hp.com, you will NOT find the drivers for this IGP(video card) in ANY other place, including www.nvidia.com. And third, go to the nvidia control panel and set it to performance. You should play Wrarcratf with ANY problem. I can play games like Doom 3 w high settings,FEAR with mid/low settings, Half-Life 2 with high settings.
