Oblivion Problem

I know im late as hell but i just got oblivion for PC and i was wondering if anyone could help me. I got past the first part with the king and made it out of the sewers, now everytime i start the game it stays on for about 3 of my characters steps then the game crashes. After it crashes nothing happens, my comp is fine, i can restart the game, but i cant move past 3-4 steps before the game shuts off.

Anyone know what this might be?

also i called tech support and it was terrible, i got on the line with a secretary and she transferred me to some guys answering machine

RAM: 1 gb
Graphics Card: Gecube ATI Radeon x1550 (agp 4x/8x)

Re: Oblivion Problem

Hi, and welcome to TSF.

Click on "Common Game Issues" in my signature, and run through all the steps. You may have a corrupted savegame, so try starting again and see if the problem persists. Oblivion usually picks up on corrupted savegames and lets you know, but not always.

Post back with results.

Re: Oblivion Problem

I will be done with this week of school tomorow so i should be able to test and reply tomorrow (thursday). The first time i called tech support he had me upgrade my drivers and it was working for about and hour before it shut itself off again... also this was on the lowest, and i mean LOWEST, settings i could play on. This doesnt make sense to me because with the same graphics card i can play Guild Wars (also released in 2005) at the highest settings with no lag... I'm really confused. He also said that while the card isn's on the supported list it should be more than ok to run the game.

Will reply soon.

Re: Oblivion Problem

Have you installed any patches or mods? The latest patch is v1.2 available from http://files.filefront.com/ESIV+Shiv.../fileinfo.html

What are the details from the PSU label? (make/model, total watts, amps for +3.3V, +5V and +12V). While the case is open, clean out any dust around the heatsink, fans and slots, and make sure all the fans are spinning and unobstructed by cables.

Enter your full system specs into this power calculator, and add 30% to the total to allow for PSU inefficiency.

Run SpeedFan at startup with no programs running and note the temperatures and PSU voltages (or take a screenshot). Leave it running and try and play Oblivion or any other 3D game for a few minutes and note the values again. Post back with both sets of readings. This will give us some idea if it's a hardware problem.

Go to Start > Run > dxdiag > Display tab. Make sure the hardware acceleration options are enabled and run the 2 tests. Any problems listed in the Notes box?

Reboot into BIOS and check your AGP settings. Disable AGP Fast Writes and if the speed is set to x8, try dropping it to x4. Save settings and exit back into Windows.
