World of Warcraft / HP Pavillion DV6626

Hello,

Maybe someone can shed some light on this situation I am having. I recently purchased a HP DV6626 mainly for the usual use of browsing and some simple word processing etc... nothing heavy by any means but I love WOW and I wanted to play a little with it if I happened to be away from town or something...

This HP has the Intel X3100 on-board GPU, 1.5 Centrino Core 2 Duo and I upgraded to 4GB of RAM (Although I can only access 3 of it even though BIOS says there is 4 Gigs in there which I think has to do with the 32-bit OS limitation...anyways).

I was very disappointed to see that when I loaded WOW, even with all the graphic settings on the lowest it can be, I average 8fps when I'm out in the open. My old piece a garbage dell dimension 8200 ran at least 20 and that was a pentium 4 1.4ghz with 512 RAM.

I know the x3100 gpu is using shared system RAM but come on!! Is there any way to configure the settings for the on-board Intel video? Can you think of anything I can do to get more FPS on this thing? I figured it would run a game as old as WOW much better than this. truly disappointed.

Of course this bloated OS known as Vista probably doesn't help all that much but I've heard "down" grading to XP on this pavillion is a nightmare.

thanks for any suggestions!!!

Dale

Re: World of Warcraft / HP Pavillion DV6626

the old one did have a dedicated GeForce Go, but it was only 32M. I guess I just didn't think the 32Meg would make such a big difference even though it was dedicated.

Re: World of Warcraft / HP Pavillion DV6626

It's really not hard to put XP on the dv6626. I'm typing this on my dv6626 I just got a few days ago with XP Pro installed. You just need a small free program called nLite, a Windows XP cd, and a driver file. It goes down like this: Copy and paste all the contents of the Windows cd into a new folder. Fire up nLite and it will ask for a folder with Windows files. Point it to the new foler you just made with the ripped contents. Click on Integrate drivers and direct burn buttons. Insert the new drivers from the driver file. Choose the option to burn a bootable copy directly to cd drive and viola, you're done. About 10 clicks and XP is on your machine. I swapped out my hard drive with the fastest available consumer sata notebook drive (Seagate 7200.2) for only 150 bucks and this thing turns on and runs so quick! Way faster boot time than my desktop! E-mail me at and I can e-mail you the sata drivers.
