Question Problem with draw distance

when i play World in Conflict and i travel across the map, some textures start appearing too rapidly and not smoothly. i have the same problem in DiRT. i dont know if this is a power issue or a heat issue.

my video card is msi nx8600gts oc.

my power supply is
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...490&CatId=1077

my cpu is core 2 duo e6550 with the stock fan and stock thermal gel

i have 2gb(2x1GB) of dual channel ddr2 800Mhz ram(Mushkin)

the only fans i have are the cpu, video card, and psu fans and i dont think i can add intake and outtake fans because my dad says the computer will be louder and more annoying :(. BUT, i will add an intake and outtake fan if i have to. my case supports only 2 80mm fans, 1 in the front and 1 in the back.

Please help

Re: Problem with draw distance

lets check the temps first.try speedfan post back the temp, and voltage readings.i will also say a 350w power supply is probably a bit small for that setup.

pay attention to the trees near the shore, the textures appear too rapidly as soon as i start moving across the map.see the difference?

Re: Problem with draw distance

well with speedfan showing your cpu at idle.your 12v is reading 11.51 almost out of spec.under load it would have to be dropping below standards.under load you are borderline overheating, but not quite.so id say its a power related issue.

Re: Problem with draw distance

so what do u think is the best solution? and what would happed if i just added two fans instead of a new psu? also, would the case be cooler inside if i just replaced the psu? he reason i'm asking all these questions is: its much cheaper to just add 2 fans instead of the psu.

Re: Problem with draw distance

adding fans will actually add to the voltage problem.it will run cooler though.personally i think you need to add those fans, and a power supply.if you do get a power supply.be sure to look at the power supply selection link in my sig.

Re: Problem with draw distance

I'd pin it on the 128-bit memory bus of the 8600.

Re: Problem with draw distance

that is very possible eb.lets test his theory try the game at a lower resolution.if the problem goes away that could be it.because at a lower resolution there is less to process, and hold in memory.

Re: Problem with draw distance

thanx, but just today, coincidentally, my video card fan stopped working after i tried to mod it to operate at 5v instead of 12v. i switched back to 12v and the fan still wouldn't turn on. so now i went back to integrated graphics. tomorrow i'll try to return my video card as soon as i get back from school(11th grade) and try and get another 8600gts (xfx or evga and not another msi). thanx for everything so far.

Re: Problem with draw distance

OK, well i got my new video card and this time it's evga and not msi and i have to say, its much quieter but the fan isn't louder when I'm gaming. That concerns me a bit because it should be trying to cool the video card more whenever it heats up. It goes to 70C under load but i did notice performance gains over the msi oc version. More to the point, I tried world in conflict on a lower resolution (800x600) and i see no difference. I also tried it on higher resolutions (1280x1024 and 1600x1200). Do you still think it is a power issue? By he way, the voltage still shows 11.51.

Re: Problem with draw distance

good call owned i to think that was the problem from the begining.being the 12v idle was 11.51.thats borderline out of spec idle so its got to be out of spec under load.

Re: Problem with draw distance

thanx, i'm gonna take out the video card for now and use my integrated graphics for because even at idle, its hot and there isn't enough voltage. i can't afford a new power supply now, so i'll wait till i have money and buy one then and 2 fans as well.
