Flickering shapes when playing games.
Problem: Whenever I play a single player (and sometimes multiplayer) game, it is always only a matter of time untill odd shapes begin flickering and flashing on the screen. The likelihood of this is always increased if I stay still in-game.
The shapes start off as equal sized squares that seem out of sync with the display, they then turn colours like brown and grey. If this continues, which it always does, triangular shapes dart about on screen, with the uppermost point the center of my monitor. They flash white, black and grey colours and move constantly, always centred in on my crosshair. I'll try and get some screenshots, which I have done in the past, but Steam is being a *****. |

Re: Flickering shapes when playing games.
I've read the rules, and I assume that multiple posting is different from double posting, which I'll have to do because I can't edit. (that's what the description pointed to, anyway).
I have some more information: The triangles sometimes take on the colours of the game and move constantly, always centred in on my crosshair. They go away for a while if I alt tab the game, but are always back. ![]() ![]() Edit: Sorry for the bad language in the above post, I didn't know this site didn't allow swearing. |

Re: Flickering shapes when playing games.
Yeah, I may have to buy a new card. However, I think it's my video card fan because my uncle once took out the fan blades, lubricated them and cleaned them and it worked fine for a while, do you think I should do that?

Re: Flickering shapes when playing games.
You could try lubricating the fan again, using a drop of oil in the pinhole below the sticker in the center of the fan. Or you could replace the fan with a higher quality one.

Re: Flickering shapes when playing games.
open the case side panel to see if it goes down. i have a really "hot" system and no extra fans, i just kept the panel off, and if you have a cold basement move the pc there

Re: Flickering shapes when playing games.
Removing the side panel is just a temporary measure to see if the temperatures drop. For a case with fans fitted, it is much better to keep the case closed as this allows the air being pulled in through the front fan to pass over the motherboard and components, cooling them down, before being exhausted by the rear case fan. The airflow path is ineffective with the panel removed.
