8600GT in Vista with Low FPS!

My PC:

Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate
Intel Pentium D, 3GHz
Gigabyte GA-8I915P Duo Pro
2GB DDR2 533
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT
Western Digital 320GB SATA
Desktop Res:1680x1050
Game Res: Any widescreen format resolution

For all my games TF2 DoD:S, WoW and BF2 I get extremely low FPS, I am talking 8-32!

I know my processor and memory are a little out dated but, I do not believe that they are the problem and will explain later.

I have tried all my games while running NVTweak and heat is a constant 54C and is not the issue. And I would like to presume voltage (or power) is not an issue for the moment (I will explain later)!

When running XP I had a 7600GS with half the memory and I was able to get 50-80fps in my games, running at 1280x800.

So with XP a slower/older card and half the memory I was able to get more than double what I am getting now, the problem should not be my processor, memory or voltages.

I have tried dumbing down all the video, and resolution, with little to no performance boost. Updated the drivers with a fresh install (uninstall, restart, install, restart). I have run the course tunning in the NVIDIA control panel and again seen no boost(I will run the fine tunning tonight but expect no jump either).

Has anyone had this issue, please post, let me know I am not alone in this! If you have found a solution PLEASE POST, my games are unplayable! All suggestions are welcome! Thanks!!! Need more info? Just ask!

Re: 8600GT in Vista with Low FPS!

1-9 Done

Even if it sounds like I do not know what I am talking about I stress to you I am not in any way some sort of armature in the PC or gaming world. I am a PC hardware and OS technician, and have been gaming since Wolfenstien 3D! I am posting here because I have hit a brick wall in my diagnosis and was hoping to get some extra help, and I have normally gotten great help from this site!

Minimum system requirements = Met and exceeded

Restart = done as stated above

background programs = checked, 42 precesses standard for vista!

DX = DX10

Vid Drivers = 163.69 NVIDIA - Done as stated above
Sound = Tried with onboard and Audigy 2 Plat enabled, No effect
(I know the Audigy drivers don't cooperate with vista very well but have tried both onboard and the Audigy with no difference noticed)

Game Patches = Steam games auto update, not an issue, recached all game files

Scratches = BF2 Clean Disk, WoW Clean Disk (not an issue not needed to play), Steam, No disks Needed

Reinstall = Done with HL2, BF2, and WoW No effect (the rest are mostly HL2 mods)

Power Supply = PCMCIS 550Watt - PCM-ATX55520P4 - Made by ePwer I believe

Re: 8600GT in Vista with Low FPS!

Dude, No offense but did you even read my first post?!? Temps are good, GPU is steady at 54C even under a load, and the CPU never gets above 50C, as I said in my first post I want to proceed under the assumption that it is not a voltage problem, because before my system upgrade I had no issue and it ran 100% better with less memory and a slower card! This power supply had no issue, the 8600GT does not require power to the card, the only thing added to pull more voltage would be memory, but I went from 2 512 sticks to 2 1 Gig sticks to the voltage increase in minimal! So please reread my posts and then stop with the tech support prompt reading and look at what this thread is, a competent PC gaming technician coming to you guys with a problem that has stumped him, not just another call coming through your help desk!

The only 3 things that are different on my system before and after the upgrade are:

XP
7600GS
1Gig Mem
=
50-80FPS

and

Vista
8600GT
2Gig Mem
=
9-32FPS

Re: 8600GT in Vista with Low FPS!

in your first post you only listed the gpu temp.so im not going to assume all temps are good when only one temp is listed.how old is the power supply? psu capacitors do degrade over time hence why i want voltage readings.dont assume that i didnt read your post because i ask common things to start.

say you got new ram have you done anything to make sure it is good?maybe you should try memtest to make sure it is good.also when you installed the upgrades video card, and memory.did you reset the cmos?

Re: 8600GT in Vista with Low FPS!

I seem to be having the same problem. I have recently upgraded from a NVIDIA 7300LE to 8600GT, and am getting lower fps also. I have heard that Vista usually uses about 800MB of memory, thus slowing down games, etc.

Sorry to be of no help, but I would just like to say that I could use some advice also.
