Freezing prob

Hey guys this is my first post hope it goes well. Ive been playing online games for a about a year now and all of the sudden my games dont want to play right. The games will start up and connect online or load up and when I start to move the game will freeze and the sounds will loop. Ive updated drivers as much as I can think to. As far as heat I have 1 fan on cpu and 1 for gpu with a fan commin in on the side and one out from power supply. I have a GeForce 6600 and 1.5 gig of ram. The processor is "unknown" but its amd athalon something with 1.8 Ghz so Im kinda lost guys. Please help.

Re: Freezing prob

first thing, if u have more than 1 RAM chip installed, then remove one and see if it stucks again, if not then switcd it with the first one. see if it hangs up now, if it doesn't, your RAM is bad. but if it does, let us know, then we will move towards the CPU. happy troubleshooting

Re: Freezing prob

Do you have a Firewall? Software or Hardware or both? Hardware Firewall would be a Router.

If you have any firewall at all, certain games like BF2, BF 2142, WoW, etc. need to have certain ports open to function properly.

Make sure your RAM is installed with the larger module in the first slot (closest to the processor).

Re: Freezing prob

to enter the bios when you first hit the power button to turn on the pc.immediately start hitting the delete key,and that will get you into the bios.then look for pc health status,or something similar it will show temp, and voltage readouts in there.i want to know both.

The clicking sound could be relevant. Download the diagnostics tool from your hard drive manufacturer's site, install it to floppy or CD, set the boot order in BIOS to floppy or CD first, reboot and run a full diagnostics test. It will report any problems and try to fix them. If they can't be fixed then the drive may be on its way out.

Re: Freezing prob

alright, I probably shouldn't have done it like this but o well. I started the cpu after an hour or so and did the BIOS thing. CPU Vcore 1.44V, +2.5V 2.54V, Volt Battery 3.15V, CPU temp 31C CPU fan speed 4440rpm, and cas fan speed 0.

koala(nice display pic btw looks like the style of Gorillaz) said I needed a diagnostic tool from the HD provider. the provider is western digital and I installed the program and tried to run it from windows (dunno if thats right or not) but a windows error showed up and said It needed to close the program.

Re: Freezing prob

I just ran the scan disk and everything seemed to finish. If I were to try to clone my HD to another one, would the file corruptions (if any) follow? And what would be a good program to use?

Re: Freezing prob

Well thats the thing. I didnt watch it the entire time so im not sure. I looked at it a few times and there were a lot of orphaned files and it needed to repair those. But I didn't sit and wait for it to get done. Should I?
