my game battlefeild 2142 wont start

it goes black like it is starting but then it stops

Have you installed the latest graphics driver and DirectX?

What make/model is your graphics card?

Do you have this problem with any other 3D games?

Has the game ever worked or is this a new problem?

What resolution are you trying to play the game at?

What's the refresh rate for your monitor?

Are you using any patches, no-CD cracks, etc?

Go to Start > Run > dxdiag > Display tab. Make sure the 3 Acceleration buttons are enabled, then run the 2 tests. Any problems listed in the Notes box?

You'll need to give us a lot more info if we're going to help you, mozilla104. We're brilliant, but not clairvoyant.

Click on "Common Game Issues" in my signature, and run through every single step listed. Post back when you've done that. If nothing in that thread helps, your next post here will need to include your full system specs, as well as answers to all of koala's questions.
