I got my PC in 2004. At the time it was top of the range and ran all games at the top settings. I got Far Cry with it, and it ran perfectly with all with the best settings i.e. Very High. Games ran perfectly for about 2 years.
I took a break from gaming to return earlier this year. But my problem is now whenever i play any fairly demanding game. My PC crashes for about 20 seconds at a time then it returns. The more demandeing the game the more frequent it happens, sometimes within seconds of eachother, (Rainbow Six Vegas, for example). I just assumed my Pc was out dated and could no longer handle new games. But, when I installed Far Cry again it would not run on high settings (i have to use low for everything.) And it has common freezes. I don't understand why this is, if it worked before i don't see why it doesn't work now! I have all the latest drivers for everything. My Specs are: OS: XP Motherboard: Asus KN8 Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT Memory: 1024MB RAM |

Re: Odd Problem with Games
There is no obvious build up of dust, and all the fans do work. Here are the readings from the sensorsview program. The processor doesn't seem to have a reading but i guess that just because its incompatable with the program.

Re: Odd Problem with Games
that kinda depends on the room temp the computer is in.if its a cool room then yes its a bit high.if the room is hot then its kinda normal.

Re: Odd Problem with Games
Two things I would look at would be the PSU and the CPU heatsink. It's much easier than you think to slightly dislodge a heatink, and having a PSU wonk out can cause lots of weird things to happen. Either of these could easily cause your problem.
