Abysmal Framerate in WoW
Hello
I just got a new laptop. The Intel 945gm video chip is terrible, because it's probably powerful enough to run all of my games, but has compatibility problems that keep it from running about half of them (the better half, for the most part). but anyways, it's an Intel Centrino Duo 2.0ghz dual core (on a gateway mt6841) and I've been trying to play World of Warcraft, but with horrible results. see, with all of the graphics options on the absolute lowest setting, my FPS peaks at about 15fps. it goes down to 2 fps, and stays at an average of around 8fps. any suggestions/performance mods(oldblivion was a wonderful idea)/help at all would be greatly appreciated. I already searched for an fps mod for wow but didn't find anything, maybe I searched for the wrong thing. EDIT: it may be helpful to know that I have 2038mb ram and 224mb vram Last edited by Ozzyfreakdude; 08-22-2007 at 01:03 PM. |

Re: Abysmal Framerate in WoW
Aside from killing extra processes and such there's really not much that can be done. You're running on an integrated chipset and those are never up to the task of good gaming.

Re: Abysmal Framerate in WoW
I put all of the settings in the video memory options on the lowest possible setting, but if there are any other settings that have anything to do with it, then I don't know where to find them.
Maybe trying OpenGL or a software renderer might help?? I was looking up another issue and I saw something about trying opengl, but what it told me to do to launch in opengl didn't work. I previously had an issue with this video chipset where first I had the latest driver and the screen would black out and then recover. then I looked the issue up and found that a driver released on 2/4 would fix it, so I installed that and it didn't do that anymore, but rather would randomly crash with an error message. I figured I'd use the driver that came out right after that one, and it runs now, but the framerate is still horrible. http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/th...id=1&pageNo=29 I was looking on that thread, and that guy is getting over twice my FPS with the same video chipset, so I'm probably doing something wrong. here it is, talking about his work notebook: "on my work notebook i was getting around 40FPS and it dropped down to 25-27FPS I un- ticked the hardware acceleration on both systems. On my home PC it didn't do anything. on my work notebook my FPS jumped up to around 35FPS" at first I thought it was due to network lag, since I play mostly on public wifi points and my lag ranges from around 60 to 800 and sometimes even higher (though it usually stays around 200). I thought it was cause of lag because if I turn the graphics ALL the way up on everything, it doesn't run all THAT much slower than with them all the way down, but at the same time, it still runs really slow even with a really great internet connection. I have a similar problem with guild wars, but it's not near as bad, since it usually runs around 15fps and peaks at about 28fps in guild wars, and the lowest is around 5, so guild wars is still kind of playable at some point. |
