All games randomly crashing similar problem

Sorry Scar, not trying to step on your toes, but I am having a similar problem with a PC. I just figured everyone could help us both at the same time. Games keep randomly crashing to desktop. Playing any game, no sounds, no warning, just crashed to desktop and the game window is gone and of course I receive a send report option to Microsoft. This my brother's cpu, so I will gather his info and post it later. I appreciate any ideas. Could this be overheating(video card or RAM or something) or power supply or something else? Also, he claims that every once and awile IE will crash and also a random total systm restart(but not too often).

Re: All games randomly crashing similar problem

for that cpu temp look in the bios.if you dont know how to get in there. simply start hitting the delete key right after you hit the power button.

Re: All games randomly crashing similar problem

In the bios, it shows CPu at 57C. I am guessing Sensor Pro is reading the CPU as Aux...Not sure what it is reading at 118C. What do you recommend? Do you think it is the power supply? Or do you think there is overheating somewhere?

Re: All games randomly crashing similar problem

if the cpu is idling 57c heat is definetly an issue.first off check the fans, and heatsink for a dust buildup.if it has alot of dust clean it out.

Re: All games randomly crashing similar problem

Ok...I will have him clean it completely. Could the power supply be causing the problem? Or have you eliminated the power supply as a possible cause?

Re: All games randomly crashing similar problem

We played 1 game since the cleaning at it was completed, but the CPU still showed a reading 57C. Also he has an Asus MB with cool and quiet, but it is disabled. Any thoughts on that feature? Hopefully the cleaning was the issue, but we have completed games before, so only time will tell. Do you think a new power supply would be a smart move anyway? 320W sounds low for any sytem nowadays and I believe it is an older PS.

Re: All games randomly crashing similar problem

Very interesting and very overwhelming. I have built PC's before and never paid much attention to the PS. I will next time. How is this one for myt brother's pc since I would think he is lower-end?

Re: All games randomly crashing similar problem

sorry to hijack your thread but I'm having a simmilar problem.

Except it is DEFINATELY NOT HEAT related as its a new computer and its clean. the PSU thing was interesting. I know its new (thermal Take 430 watt PSU) but could it be a faulty PSU???? I've had DOA PSU's before but in those they are dead...no power... this one isn't acting the same as those, really it functions well.

The video card is a X850XT---yes, I know they have a faulty fan controller so I have ATI tools running to fix that.
