Extreme monitor flicker (NOT refresh rate).

I moved recently, and since then, I've been unable to play any full-screen games. After a few minutes of playing any game that uses any sort of 3D rendering and is full-screen, my monitor turns itself off and on repeatedly, as if I were changing the resolution in display properties. I thought this was a heat issue, but I don't understand why it would only happen on full-screen, when I can run WoW windowed for days straight and have no problem, but can't run Diablo 2 for more than 10 minutes.

Re: Extreme monitor flicker (NOT refresh rate).

All the connections are good. When I run SensorsView I get these results:

CPU:47C
SYS:38C
AUX:67C
HD0:29C
HD1:42C

Whatever "AUX" is seems pretty hot, but I have no idea what that represents.

Re: Extreme monitor flicker (NOT refresh rate).

that could be an incorrect reading.when you moved was the pc subjected to any fairly extreme vibration?

Re: Extreme monitor flicker (NOT refresh rate).

Nope, was moved by myself, didn't see anything too severe happen to it. It's been rebuilt from the ground-up while I cleaned it, hoping that would fix the problem, but nothing changed.

do you have access to another monitor?to see if it is the monitor,or pc.that would narrow it down greatly.

Re: Extreme monitor flicker (NOT refresh rate).

Tried a separate monitor, same problem. Though I noticed with Diablo 2 that before the monitor loses signal, the brightness is lowered drastically, so the game will appear dark before it goes blank.

Hi.

Could you please post your system specs, including the make and model of your power supply?
Also, which version drivers are using for your graphics card?

Re: Extreme monitor flicker (NOT refresh rate).

Motherboard: K8N Neo3
Processor: Ahtlon64 3000+
Videocard: Radeon X800 GTO, with latest ATI official drivers.
RAM: 512MB Kingmax DDR400/512MB Kingston DDR400
Power Supply is some no-name 300W thing that came with my cheap Circuit City case.

And it's interesting that you bring up power supply, because when I moved I had to install a wireless network adapter. I'll try removing it and playing an offline game for a bit.

Re: Extreme monitor flicker (NOT refresh rate).

Good idea, let us know how it goes.
That kind of system would be pushing the generic 300W PSU to the max, adding the wireless adapter may have just overdone it a bit.
On a different note, I would seriously recommend looking at getting a new power supply. Something around 500W should be fine for that system, just don't look at generic ones. Get a well known brand.
The PSU is the backbone of your system. If it dies, so does everything else.

Re: Extreme monitor flicker (NOT refresh rate).

Even without the wireless adapter, I'm seeing the same problem. Feeling around for heat, the chipset heatsink is too hot to touch. Could this be the problem? I'm not sure how I'd fix that, other than replace the motherboard.

Re: Extreme monitor flicker (NOT refresh rate).

nah no reason to change the entire motherboard.you could put a fan on it,or just get an aftermarket cooler.

Re: Extreme monitor flicker (NOT refresh rate).

Hi,
I have a similar problem.
After normal operation, the monitor suddenly flickers on and off repeatedly (at intervals 1-10 seconds) for total a duration of 1 to 5 min. After this period ends, the computer operates normally. This happens approx. 1-5 times a week. If an external display is connected (e.g. projector), it also flickers concurrently. During the flickering, every time the monitor turns on, the mouse is centered on the screen (regardless of the initial position), and the mouse pointer indicating background activity appears. If the computer logs off, the flickering stops. If “Task Manager” is open, CPU activity appears, and running applications may hang.

my computer is Acer Aspire 5672 AWLMi, Core Duo Processor (T2250), widows vista, ATI Mobility Radeon X1600

Does anybody know a solution to this problem?
(Feel free to move the post if you this appropriate)

thanx in advance

Sounds like heat is affecting the integrated DAC.
