Oblivion on Vista Home Premium

I have not been able to get Oblivion to run on the new machine. Have already tried the compatiblity tab on the install and turned off UAC control.

The gaame installs without errors, it recognizes my graphics card etc. All the game does is show in the upper left corner a small black screen and within one or two seconds the windows message pops up saying the game has stopped and windows will close the game and notify if solution is found.

The only additonal info I have been able to get is with compatiblity set to Windows XP SP2 - I get a message saying that the game is not compatible with some visual aspects of Windows (Vista).

I have already tried all combinations on the comp tab. Nothing works...

I would appreciate any words of wisdom or new leads to work on.

Re: Oblivion on Vista Home Premium

Looked thru all of the above and posted system specs. The machine I have is an unmodified HP Pavillon a6120n. There is no change, game still will not start.

Re: Oblivion on Vista Home Premium

Thank you for your help, would this be a continuing problem with new games as they come out?

Re: Oblivion on Vista Home Premium

Check the label on the side of the PSU and post back with the details (total watts, and the amps for +12V). Adding a new graphics card will increase your system's power requirements, so it's best to make sure it can cope before spending any money.

Re: Oblivion on Vista Home Premium

Current PSU is only 250w. Have in mind the following: Ultra V series 500W PSU & EVGA 8500 PCI-E Graphics Card..

Re: Oblivion on Vista Home Premium

To get some idea of your upgraded system's power requirements, enter your full system specs into this power calculator, and add 30% to the total to allow for PSU inefficiency.

Re: Oblivion on Vista Home Premium

Calculator comes out at 245w + 30% = 82 + - Total 330 est. Believe the Ultra V ($50) is still best bet. The 8500 PCI-E is advertised as DirectX 10 ready. This hopefully will do the job..

Re: Oblivion on Vista Home Premium

The 8500 (GT?) is not very power-hungry (about 40W) so although the UltraV PSU is not one of the better models, it will run your new card..... and let you play Oblivion

Re: Oblivion on Vista Home Premium

I think you have a pen tabled ?

I had the same problem with spore, only it didnt start up at all.
I found out that if you have a pen tablet it buggs with some games. So to fix it simply when you start up a game and it doesnt work just keep clicking the taskbar(i mean the bottom bar dont know if its called the taskbar)
It worked on spore and now in oblivion. :D
