Battlefield 2, Doom 3: Error 103?

Every time I try to start up Battlefield 2 or Doom 3, I get a little window with "Protection Error" on the title bar, and "Error: 103" in the window.

I contacted EA tech support over this, and they said it had something to do with drive emulation or Nero.

Can anybody be more in-depth?

Do you have the games mounted on virtual drives or are you using backup copies of the game CDs?


Someone with the same problem as you posted on another forum looking for help. Even EA couldn't provide a satisfactory answer......

Back from reviewing EA tech support they have sent and so far no working answer has come to our problem plz spred the word of this issue more throught the community so we can get more help on solving this issue. And my the answer to our problems come soon cause in all honesty my patience is wearing a little thin with EA as summer approaches and my most played game still doesnt work.

NOTE: Make sure your Windows account is a member of the 'administrators' group first! (And nothing more unless you have a specific reason why)

Assuming your My Docs Folder and Game Folder are both on C:

1: Turn off 'simple file sharing'.
2: Get properties on C: and hit the Security tab.
3: Remove everything in there.
4: Click add and type Administrators then click Ok. (And nothing more unless you have a specific reason why)
5: Make sure all the boxes below are checked to allow.
6: Click the Advanced Button.
7: At the bottom, click "Replace permission entries on all child objects..." so it has a tick.
8: Click ok, and on the box beneath, click ok on that too.

It will reset your drives permissions to give full access on C: to admins only. Sometimes this gets screwed up and needs to be reset. This will take a while depending how much stuffs on your hard drive.

If it still don't work, try reinstalling BF2 again after doing this.

Curious I have XP 64 bit edition profesional, and the steps I guess dont work for it or I cant figure out where to go. Can you describe indepth more to me on how to fic the 103 error? O and C: doesint have a securety tab aswell D:
