This may be a popular problem, but when I go to start steam, nothign happens and "steam.exe" appears in the task manager. I have run multiple virus scans and beleive my system to be clean. When I delete clientregistry.blob, steam updates, then chrashes.

Re: Steam Issue
I had the same problem with Half Life 2 a while back. After contacting Steam through their forum, they advised me to install the latest Steam updates but I couldn't even get that far. I had to completely uninstall then reinstall to fix it.

Re: Steam Issue
Go to www.steampowered.com and download the latest version of Steam.
And Redhot you will also need to download and install Service Pack 2 for Windows in order for Steam to run an your system. You will need Service Park 2 to run most games these days i recommend you do a windows update. www.microsoft.com

Re: Steam Issue
Well this is a common problem with Steam. The best option is to uninstall, clean out the pc (leftover files, registry entries) use some sort of app the run the cleaning stuff.
Then download the newest version on Steam, update your DX9 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en also this non-critical update for XP can help with steam problems http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Re: Steam Issue
The only other thing i can thing whats wrong is that there could be a virus or malware on your system that is stopping steam from running or possibly you have an application that is conflicting with steam, like anti-virus programs...
It could also be you firewall, put steam in the exception list and if its already in the list just override it.
