Re: Steam Issue

I had the same problem with Half Life 2 a while back. After contacting Steam through their forum, they advised me to install the latest Steam updates but I couldn't even get that far. I had to completely uninstall then reinstall to fix it.

Re: Steam Issue

Well this is a common problem with Steam. The best option is to uninstall, clean out the pc (leftover files, registry entries) use some sort of app the run the cleaning stuff.
Then download the newest version on Steam, update your DX9 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
also this non-critical update for XP can help with steam problems http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Re: Steam Issue

Do you have any apps you would reccomend for cleaning? I'll try those downloads first.

Edit: and I just updated my Direct X the other day.

Re: Steam Issue

The only other thing i can thing whats wrong is that there could be a virus or malware on your system that is stopping steam from running or possibly you have an application that is conflicting with steam, like anti-virus programs...
It could also be you firewall, put steam in the exception list and if its already in the list just override it.

Re: Steam Issue

Steam is in the exception list. Multiple virus scans have shown up clean.
