Starcraft Install Issues...
Ok, I have a really old disc of Starcraft. I'm pretty sure it works (comp can see all the files in the CD when it's explored) but the issue seems to be that it's not compatible with my current OS? Is there any way to fix this?
Symptoms/Steps to initiate symptoms: - Put CD in (disabled Autorun, otherwise comp/explorer.exe would freeze) - Open My Computer - "Open" not "Autorun" CD - Set compatibility mode to Windows 2000 (otherwise would freeze and give BSoD) for the SETUP.EXE - Double-click the SETUP.EXE - Mass humming and heating of DVD-ROM Drive ensues - Eject CD after 15 minutes of non-response - Hot CD and computer gives an error saying CD was not found immediately after you pop out the CD Note: You cannot access the task manager during the overworking of the Drive. You can however access other programs O.o Any suggestions? |

Re: Starcraft Install Issues...
See if you can make a back up CD and run it off that CD as long as you own a real copy of the game you can download star craft as a backup and carry on from there.

Re: Starcraft Install Issues...
Downloading isn't the way to go. It's still software piracy.
Considering the heat of the disc I'd say the drive itself is actually bad. I know SC will run under XP as it's one of my all-time favorite PC games.

Re: Starcraft Install Issues...
I notice that this is an old post, but I have to revive it: I am having the same problem!
As soon as windows detects the Starcraft cd, it begins to act funny, and trying to autoplay OR manually run the install both cause it to bog down and freeze... *extremely* slow response time to activate the task manager and shut it down. Slightly more response from other programs. This happened when I used my sc disc in either of my two drives. As I own the game, and it literally seems impossible to run, for the sake of trouble shooting I downloaded a sc iso and ran it with d-tools... lo and behold, the exact same effect. Consumed all resources, and refused to run in any way, shape or form whatsoever... I am wondering if it is a virus that is activated by starcraft, but since it has happened I have run deep scans through avast!, adaware, spybot s&d, and zonealarm... All came up negative. (Perhaps it is unknown??) If anyone has had this problem, knows about it, or would like more information to try and solve it, let me know! I miss starcraft, I am getting cravings... =[ Thanks in advance, Joshua |

Re: Starcraft Install Issues...
OK GUYS...
Thanks again for any help you were going to give me, this would have been a real stumper, if I hadnt remembered the qualities of zone alarm's program control. Sc hadnt been installed on the computer before, but since the first install attempt it had been blocked. Go figure. Cheers, Joshua |
