Playing Games In Vista
I've tried to put two of my games that I played on XP (Simon the Sorcerer & Emperor: Rise of the middle kingdom) onto my new computer which has Vista, I can't get either of them to work.
Both install fine but won't play. Simon The Sorcerer opens a screen but stops responding before it's anything but a black screen, while Emperor will only start the CD spinning but doesn't actually bring anything up on the screen. No error messages or anything, nothing happens. I've downloaded all the patches and updates that I could find, I've tried running them in XP compatability mode and I've tried running them as an Administrator but it hasn't made any difference. My new computer with Vista has a larger hardrive, more RAM and better sound and video cards compared to my old computer which runs XP. Any suggestions? Re: Playing Games In Vista
Hi BecBennett. Welcome to TSF.
Try running through the First Steps. The main things i would be checking is that you have DirectX 9.0c installed. Vista comes with some version of DirectX 9 but it seems to have problems running a lot of games. If that fails to help, try turning of Vista's UAC. Go Start > Click on your display picture. There should be an option to turn UAC on/off. |
