Almost crashing to desktop

hi,

i recently formatted my computer and reinstalled all my drivers etc. No when i play battlefield 2 my game occasaionally flashes to the desktop screen and then back to the game very quickly. I can play fine for the first 20 or so minutes, then these flashes begin to occur every minute until eventually the game crashes to desktop for good.

I also have battlefield 2142 but i never have this problem in that game. i suspect its something to do with my antivirus program running in the background.

anyway ive checked and i got the latest drivers for my graphics, sound, motherboard, i dont know if theres any i missed that might be causing this. ive bee able to play bf2 fine for over a year but after my first format its now doing this :(

thanks in advance for any help.

I ran through those steps and everything looks ok except for my video card. I have an nVidia gForce 6600GT.

these problems only started occuring when i installed the latest driver at the time, 93.71. previously i had an 80 series driver, i cant remember which one specifically. so going off your advice i downloaded the 84.21 i think it was (the link to the most stable driver) anyway before i installed it this screen came up (in the remove driver screen)

im just wondering which boxes i leave checked an unchecked.
