Final Fantasy VIII on Windows XP

Alright, so I have the game installed and working. However, whenever I am moving, the game is a bit choppy (move...small pause...move...small pause). Anybody know of a fix?

2.0gHz AMD Athlon dual-core
1 GB RAM
ATI Radeon X800 XT

Have you installed the dual-core optimizer from AMD? My friend's 4400+ X2 was doing the same with FFVII until we installed that.

Just to add to eb's post - you can download the dual-core optimizer by clicking the "AMD Drivers" link in my signature.
