how to run a server in bf2142/avp2

Well i am stumped and well my problem is there is an option on each of them that says run dedicated server so i press it and server runs or does it?... well as i see the screen of the server like what level its currently on kick this person blah blah blah and i noticed nobody has joined my server in a long time. and note i am on a router. so i asked my bro hey can you check if my server gets on the list and he checked and my server isnt on the list for both of them ( i dont run the games at the same time but one at a time). does anybody know how to solve this problem?
