Terrible FPS issue, multiple games.
A while ago my motherboard died, so I ended up deciding to just upgrade a lot of pieces of hardware in my computer since they were becoming ancient.
With the DxDiag I will post below this, you will see some of the new items that I bought (in total: New CPU, Motherboard, RAM, Video Card) but some how, my FPS has bottomed out to complete disaster. Playing what seemed a simple graphics game (World of Warcraft -- everything on Low) I get a normal fps of around 20. Trying to play half life deathmatch was even worse, chopping around all over the place. I have an X1950 XT, where i have read is a diffcult card to overclock, so my attempts at doing so have failed. I have no idea what is causing this terrible FPS problem, but it has to end soon. My DxDiag is as follows (what I feel is applicable atleast): ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 5/27/2007, 21:16:11 Machine name: NO-A56J4RIUJFKW Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Re: Terrible FPS issue, multiple games.
Did you format your HDD when you installed all the new Hardware.. When you replace the motherboard you need to re-install windows otherwise it becomes very unstable and in most cases it doesnt boot

Re: Terrible FPS issue, multiple games.
i did do a reformat when i installed all the new hardware, basically only backed up my addons for wow, and i dunno if you guys would think just doing that much would cause incredible frame lag not in just this but other games as well.

Re: Terrible FPS issue, multiple games.
theres your problem your CPU temp is off the chart... It should be around 30-40c.. I would turn off the pc before the processor is fried anymore. Clean all the dust out of the fan and heatsink and anywhere else you see dust. Make sure the Heatsink is fitted correctly. Buy some thermal paste and smear it on the top of the CPU (where the heatsink comes in contact with the CPU).
These are the temps you should be looking at.. Room temp about 25c CPU: Idle 30-35c Load 35-45c GPU: Idle 30-40c Load 40-50c (Can be upto 70c) HDD: Idle 30-44c Load 35-47c (55c data corruption occurs)

Re: Terrible FPS issue, multiple games.
That is rather toasty, you need to cool that puppy down. Karlos gives
good advice. Might try adding some fans as well. I prefer one in the front drawing air in, one in the back sucking hot air out. If you have one on the side I prefer that to be blowing out.

Re: Terrible FPS issue, multiple games.
I did the thermal paste thing on the CPU and am also fairly sure the heatsink is running just fine. I also have one side case fan and two fans on the back. I am pretty sure they all blow inwards toward the case. There's two things that I could see as an issue. First, I don't know how people do it, I have tried and tried, but when I hook everything up to the PSU, I can't keep it all neat an clean and conserved space. Cords are all over the place and its basically just a mess, I have no idea how to get around it, which could most likely just be trapping heat inside. Secondly, a while ago I had a 550w PSU that was larger than the default PSU the case came with, so I ended up having to take the roof fan off to fit the PSU. Now with my 500w PSU, I could fit the fan there again instead of the gaping hole on top.
That all said, is there a way I can change how the fans blow air or what not? and I am pretty sure I don't have any spot for a fan in the front. And lastly, what kind of fan should I have on top? normal inward blowing fan? |

Re: Terrible FPS issue, multiple games.
This is how you should have your case fan layout be.......
Front Fans: Sucks cool air in Side Fans: Blows hot air out Back Fans: Blows hot air out Top case Fans: Sucks cool air in That way you create an airflow And i used cable ties to tie my cables up. I tied them to the inner metal frame

Re: Terrible FPS issue, multiple games.
Alot of cases ship with the side fan blowing in, which imho is wrong.
Ive had to flip about 75%. Havent dealt with many cases with the fan up top. But it would make sense that it should blow out, exhausting hot air from case.
