Soundloop & Crash to desktop

Well I have been here before and exposed my situation, but this time I know for sure its not about my RAM timings because I tested both units of RAM individually and the crashes still occur :(

Basically I can play Neverwinter Nights fine for 10-15 mins (sometimes less) before the game crashes. Nothing seems to trigger it, as I have been doing no more than simply standing there and see if it happened...and it did. I also experience sound crackling in other games and virtually all of bioware's releases have this symptom.

One thing that you should probably know...I played all of these games in the past with no problem whatsover and with NO hardware changes ever since.

I know the drill. I have updated drivers for every mambo jambo there is, clean drivers too since I just formatted my hard drive.

And I am aware the timings on my RAM may seem suspicious, but like I said, I tried with just one unit individually for each and the game still crashes without any apparent changes.

An EVEREST report follows. If someone can PLEASE help me out here, I would be greatly appreciated. The copy is legit, fully updated and its probably my all-time favorite game :( I gave up on fixing it last time but I really REALLY want to fix it and I had high hopes after I formatted my computer and such ><

Re: Soundloop & Crash to desktop

you point out ram first and say you tested it ok what was your testing method.

DIMM1 512 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM (2.5-4-4-8 @ 200 MHz)
DIMM2: SpecTek 256 MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM (2.5-3-3-7 @ 166 MHz) (2.0-2-2-5 @ 100 MHz)

from your memory spec your timings should be set at the slowest timings here
2.5-4-4-8

ok memory covered.what are your tempratures heat can cause this issue as well.try http://www.techsupportforum.com/arti...rsviewpro.html to check your temps and voltages.report back what they are.disregard the last part all of that was on the everest report.

Re: Soundloop & Crash to desktop

Okay I will test the temperatures, thanks :)

About the RAM timings, I mean I tested using each RAM unit individually, so the timings (despite not the best as it seems) are not causing the crashes. If someone wants to point me to a place where I can learn how to fix the timings, sure, and I appreciate it - but its not whats causing the crashes.

I'll post again later :)

Re: Soundloop & Crash to desktop

let me clarify did you use memtest to check that ram.

edit: oh you dont know how to do that ok thats not a problem.to alter memory timings all you have to do is enter the bios.normally by hitting delete when you first hit the power button.it should be listed in there as dram configuration,or something similar.different boards call it something different depending on bios version.

Re: Soundloop & Crash to desktop

okay, but wouldnt it be weird if that was the cause since I never really changed those settings, and I have been able to play neverwinter nights flawlessly in the past?

In any case, as soon as I get off work I'll test my temperatures! any other insight you have meanwhile is HIGHLY appreciated and I'll worship you forever *kneels*

Doesn't seem like anyone in the bioware forums has my problem either :(

Many thanks in advance for the time you're taking :)

Re: Soundloop & Crash to desktop

Wouldn't that cause most games to crash btw(the video card overheating)? And okay I'll run memtest tomorrow I guess. Any other ideas? I really don't think its my RAM timings :(

Re: Soundloop & Crash to desktop

Wouldn't that cause most games to crash btw(the video card overheating) < that statement is partially true.let me explain some games depending on how they render things.can cause a card to run alot hotter than other games.so that being said the game that is crashing is it the most graphics intense game ya got.

Re: Soundloop & Crash to desktop

Not at all. I play guildwars, which is by far more demanding than neverwinter nights I believe. Not even Doom 3 crashes, though it runs slow as hell ^^

Re: Soundloop & Crash to desktop

bumping

can we forget the memory test thingy altogether? I think the problem is sound related -_- I'm getting sound crackling even after formatting...

It happens in some games, but not in all of them...freaking weird.
