Gameport support in W98? [RESOLVED]
I've got a strange problem brewing. I have a CH FlightStick Pro working just fine from an on-board gameport hookup (Soyo, SY-P4VGA, I think). Running DOSBox 7.0 under Win98, I can use my old 486 level flightsims. However, my CH Pedals (also gameport) don't work and W 98 doesn't register them.
Whatsup?

Re: Gameport support in W 98?
Those pedals aren't going to have native win98 support or any operating system for that matter. That is why the last post was asking you about drivers for the pedals. If you don't have the install CD any longer, I can more than likely locate your driver and post a link for your to download it. I'll need the full model number and part number if applicable. I'm not sure if you specified your OS as 98se or not but sometimes drivers are different for the 98se version versus the standard 98 release.

Re: Gameport support in W 98?
I don't recall ever having to load a driver for these. I've searched the web "at large" for a driver, and didn't come up with anything except MAC drivers. They're the original CH Pedals; not the sliders, but the first ones. I'm using 98se. Thanks for your help, I'll go back and get a specific part number if I can find one then I'll be listening. Thanks again!

Re: Gameport support in W 98?(moved from Hardware)
first thing is to go into the control panel, and hit add new hardware.see if it even detects any new hardware.if not look in device manager for any unknown hardware.if there is something there remove it,and see if windows will redetect it.also its possible you may be out of luck.i recently got an old laptop with 98se on it,and ive had to install everything from some sort of driver download.

Re: Gameport support in W 98?(moved from Hardware)
I'll wait for you to post the model number of your pedals but after that, since the post was moved here to gaming support, these guys are going to be much more efficient with providing you the most accurate information. I will look for your reply with the part number and post a link to the drivers if I indeed locate them. (I've been known to find things that seem impossible to find so stay tuned)

Re: Gameport support in W 98?(moved from Hardware)
honestly for windows 98 it most likely will need a driver.

Re: Gameport support in W 98?(moved from Hardware)
OK, I can tell you this much. I've searched high and low for any sort of identification, and I don't find it. Don't get me wrong, I know these are CH pedals, I just can't find a model number or even an FCC id. They are the first model available (I HAD to have them -- go figure) not the second model with the slider and seperate brake/gas functions.
Now, I went into Control Panel and deleted the CH FlightStick Pro. Then I re-entered it and checked "rudder pedals" at the same time. W98 sees the pedals now and they function fine in the calibrate tab. HURRAY, so far, so good. But, when I go into Aces of the Pacific (Dynamix, circa 1992) still no joy. I know the software can handle them as I flew this same software with these same pedals on a DOS machine year and years ago. So, my thinking at this point is that it's a DOSBox issue. Do any of you have any input on DOSBox or how to resolve this?

Re: Gameport support in W 98?(moved from Hardware)
i think the part you see working is part of legacy compatibility. I would hope that the driver set for the pedals would run a resident (TSR) program in the system try that helps things along in games that don't recognize the legacy support. regardless it's a tough one to solve because everything about this issue is end of life. plus with current support problems we have machines that cam emulate the issues, here it would be impossible to create a 10 year old machine so a little research an the first instinct of software drivers comes to mind. I will do a generic search for CH pedals and see if we get lucky. but even if I find something this is no guarantee that everything your want to play is going to work peachy.

Re: Gameport support in W 98?(moved from Hardware)
RESOLVED. I posted this up in the DOSBox forum and got a suggestion to set swap34=true in the DOSBox.conf file. That switch swaps the 3rd and 4th axis of joystick number 2. Everything's working fine now. Thanks for the help I received. I appreciate TSF.
