360 wired controller sound problem

When I plug my wired 360 controller into my computer the sound stops working ... sort of. If I have a program running before I plug the controller in the sound will still work for that program. Unfortunately, most games don't recognize the controller if I plug it in after I start them.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this or have any ideas on what I could try to do to fix it? Thanks.

Re: 360 wired controller sound problem

I got the drivers from the hardware install wizard when I first plugged it in.
I deleted those and tried the ones you linked, got the same results though.

Re: 360 wired controller sound problem

i did read when i was looking for those drivers that not all games will support it.so its possible nothing can be done until a game patch is released.

Do you use onboard sound or do you have a dedicated sound card? If so, what model?

Re: 360 wired controller sound problem

Yeah, I've tried all of that, it's just so weird because it only happens if I plug the controller in before a program starts. I'm not sure if it could be something interfering with one of the sound drivers that would cause this to happen.

Here's the list of items that I have in my Sound, video and game controllers in device manager.

ATI WDM rage theater video
ATI wdm specialized mdv codec
audio codecs
c-media high definition audio device
legacy audio drivers
media control devices
usb audio device
video codecs

the thing is that this problem happens with all of the computers that I own, so I'm leaning toward this maybe being a problem with the controller itself. I've seen one person ranting on amazon about this happening with a standard xbox360 wired controller, however, I am using the MadCatz 360 Pro controller.

Note: I just double checked and the only sound drivers that all 4 of my computers have in common are the legacy drivers.

Re: 360 wired controller sound problem

yes its a good possibility there isnt a fix for it.until some new drivers are released for it.if others are complaining about the same issue.probably not much can be done.
